Are we being conned?  When I first signed up with Talk Talk I plumped for the "Basic Broadband" option (11Mbs average) but when I found that this was really no good for watching video I decided to upgrade to "Fibre Broadband" (67Mbs to infinity), a little dearer but worth it, or so I thought. Are we being conned? I have just looked at the Talk Talk website and found that the "Basic Broadband" had now become "Fast Broadband" (11Mbs average) and my "Fibre Broadband" had become "Faster Fibre" (38Mbs average) and on top of that was another band called "Superfast Broadband" (67Mbs average). So in effect I am now receiving 38Mbs (if I'm lucky) when I am paying for 67Mbs. Would like to hear your comments, thank you.

Sounds like a question for your ISP. Not sure what input we could provide.

If that's all that's available to you, then why are you here? Lmao! Either live with what you have or upgrade to super.

I did upgrade to their now "super" (67Mbs average) but have been bumped down to half that speed for the same price. Fair? Not in my eyes.

Then call their sales and complain. Unfortunately it's supply and demand if this ISP is your best option. Were you in contract?
by (310 points)
Yes, I was in contract, along with thousands of others I expect.

Then you need to call in and speak to someone. If you were out of contract, they can do whatever they want, unfortunately.

You had a contracted term plan for 67+ Mbps ? Is the third tier even more expensive than what you pay now?
by (310 points)
Yes, the third tier is much more expensive.

How are you testing your seeds? Via wifi or ethernet/lan.
by (310 points)
It doesn't matter. I was paying for 67Mbs but now I can only get 38Mbs. It's like paying for a room in the Ritz and ending up in the YMCA.

It matters because if there’s a drastic difference between your WiFi and LAN speed then there could be a problem with your router rather than the service coming into your home. Is your modem/router supplied by your ISP? If your ISP boosts your speed but your current equipment can’t handle it, then you won’t get any benefit. Still worth a call to your ISP.

So i re-read your post. How do you know your are only getting 38mbps is my question, because if you are testing wifi even though your are ACTUALLY getting 67mpbs at the modem/router via wifi it will probably only be high 40mpbs ish. I have 150mbps speed and via wifi I get 80mbps. That is just how wifi works.

@vendee948 I don't need to test my speed, it's all over their advertising, I used to pay for 38Mbs to infinity but since they added an extra layer at the top my capacity has been capped.

So if you do a lan/ethernet test and you get 68 mbps then what? You gonna call them and tell them to reduce it. lmao. That is an UP TO speed. They can't GUARANTEE you those speeds because of all the things that could cause slower. It seems like you were just here to complain tho. and really no sense in posting to this group as this is a group for people to help other people. not have a gripe fest. Have a good one man.

What's this have to do with home automation?
by (310 points)
Try using your home automation without broadband, then look at your comment again.

@americana it isn't cause there is no helping his situation this is only something he can fix by contacting his provider.
