Does anyone use a WiFi booster? Wondering if it’s worth it. I have terrible WiFi connectivity for all the devices I have running. ‍♀️

Best answer
Get a second router and set it up as a access point (if you have a network port far from the provider router). If not, go with mesh.

Wifi boosters are horrible.

My default recommendations are: dedicated APs > Mesh Wifi > wifi extenders > multiple separate routers.

I use a mesh network from TP link. It seems to work but the speeds farther from the main hub are slower

1. How many devices are you running? How many are streaming? 2. How many square feet is the home, and how many stories? 3. Was the house built pre 1978? 4. Have you ever had a WIFI site survey done? Can you see more than 6 neighbors WIFI on your devices? Any aquariums, florescent lighting refridgeration or microwaves close to the current WIFI router? All these questions

So what type of speeds to you pay for?

If you have an android phone, download Wi-Fi overview 360 pro. It will let you see what is going on with yours and competing networks.

Trust me when I say, if you want simple install, superb coverage, and reliability. Go with Ubiquity Amplifi. They make a few different models, if you have a large home, go for the mesh version.

The mesh will be more expensive, but you’ll be very happy.

@lesson Unifi AC Pro with Unifi USG is my go to install with anyone having WiFi issues.

@mastrianni I agree that is better, however not easy install. I’ve manage a few of the same setup with the new CK gen2, and have same setup in my house. I started with the Amplifi and took it back because I wanted the scalability and granularity of the controller. However I didn’t see much Improvement with speed or coverage. There is no comparison re: advance config, but the Amplifi did a great job.

I tried a booster and it was awful, I moved to go google mesh and it was night and day improvement. All my connected devices just connect including multiple cameras and TV's streaming data all day. With the boosters the cameras in the front of the house and in back yard worked most of the time but had periodic outages, the TV upstairs couldn't even bring up NetFlix logo within 2-3 minutes. Even if you dont use google wifi, I'd suggest a mesh product over boosters any day.

WiFi boosters/WiFi extenders are a horrible waste of money. If you have bad WiFi in an area of your home using a WiFi booster/extended, all you would be found is extending the bad WiFi signal. The proper way to add more WiFi coverage in your home is by using hardwired WiFi access points.
