Because you are connected to it's built in Wifi. You now open up the magichome app and configure it for your actual wifi ssid.

Connect to your home network first. Then open the app and go through the wizard. The problem is when you first open the app, it locks onto what wifi you currently are connected to thinking that is your home network. I have 6 of these in use here. ;)

You need to turn off data on your Android phone to allow local lan access to discover the device. Turn off 5ghz on your wireless and you will be fine.

Are you perhaps the type that puts weird characters into their WiFi SSID?

Huh. I am running a Unifi Mesh with both 2. 4/5g networks using the same SSID. None of my MagicHomes have an issue with it. o. O

Once they are paired you can turn your 5ghz back on

Try turning off the 5g network. It could possibly not work with that network enabled.

I had one of those, tried everything I could think of, multiple times and could never get it to work, so I ended up sending it back and got a different one that connects to Philips hue instead. 10 seconds later, all set up

Main points to note, it doesn’t have a DC input jack, only wire terminals. Also, the output is the same, just wire terminals. Supports strips using up to 5 wires (RGBW & ground) switches are adjustable for different strips. For me using RGBW strips, it shows up in the hue app as a ‘dimmable light’ (white) and ‘colour strip’ (RGB) Hope that all makes sense. Make sure to leave it always powered though, if it gets unpowered and then re-powered it sometimes un-links from the hue app, so you have to re-add it

Try factory resetting it. You have to plug it in and unplug it a few times, then the strip will start to flash different colours. Best to do it with the strip off so you know you’ve done it correctly

worth a shot. I have one of these. I just deleted it from the app, reset the device. Then added it on the app by connecting to its own network, then adding it to my WiFi. Didn’t have a problem. Only think I can think of is 2. 4/5GHz problem, or maybe the device is close to being out of range of your WiFi? But others have mentioned all of the above so I’m out of ideas. Unless your unit is defective

Or it could be your power supply maybe?

maybe it’s not powerful enough to drive it all. But if the lights worked with another controller just fine, it might not be that

Make sure you point magichome app to the 2. 4GHz WiFi. These controllers unfortunately does not support 5Ghz. I have 3 of these at home and it works fine on my ORBI router.

Not exactly sure if this is a smart home question but I’m thinking of switching my home from cable/internet to internet only and I was wondering what would be a good WiFi speed mbps to run my devices and phones?
