Hi, new to the group. I have some knowledge of installing smart home systems when i used to be a Smart Home Pro Installer for Vivint. I wanna do a smart system for my new apartment, starting with a Alarm system. there is Ring and Samsung SmartThings, I see Ring has good reviews but I like the touch screen of the Samsung, but it does not have great reviews. I have seen people use the Amazon Fire tablets for their touch control panels. So many options. so can anyone here give me some ideas and options? Thanks

The SmartThings ADT Hub is being discontinued. SmartThings is a good home automation platform that can be used for "roll your own" security, but it is not an alarm system. Ring seems to be the best deal out there for that. Unfortunately sensors cannot be paired to both systems.

Nether, build your own with something like homeseer. Smart things is slow, cloud based (so it will have downtime) and not privacy friendly and ring is even worse. Build something that’s local for much better reliability and significantly faster. For example you tell ring or smart things to show your camera on a screen it takes about 30+ seconds, my homeseer does it in less then 2 seconds.

@pitman I would stay away from Internet based. I use Insteon ISY in my home and other places.

An extremely powerful alarm system with complete privacy & no internet dependencies is just part of my smart home. More importantly, it works with my flood sensors, smoke sensors, CO sensors, etc. and is very feature rich.
