Any of you guys have a 20+ inch touch screen mounted on the wall, running some kind of OS for using Home Assistant? I am specifically asking about the monitor part. I simply can't find something that isn't super expensive. I thought about getting a cheap 24-27 inch monitor, then buying one of those resistive touch USB interfaces, but it's not that pretty and at that size, those resistive touch modules cost a bit as well. Let me know what you did

Bought 3 old supermarket 'Till' touch screens and use one of them as a Video jukebox selector which then plays on a large screen TV all in a man-cave open to the elements but covered overhead. Don't care if it lasts or not but has done for around 10years so far.

@secrest how large are they?

Not that big but really cheap. approx 23"

You could always make a 'Switch wall' using micro switches and small wooden panels, then project a screen over them. Then it can be 12ft wide if you want and cost about £20

@secrest I thought about that, but it's not that upgradable, if I want more stuff :(

Can you use an old Microsoft surface? They're not that big though.

Elo screens are good and you can get some nice looking ones. Have a look on eBay

@inceptive Low resolution and generally only 4:2. Any 20+ inch version is also quite expensive tbh :/

Home automation is expensive. But, if you know where to look or who to ask, you can get some of the stuff you need for super cheap or free. This is a 24" ELO Acoustic Pulse touch panel mounted in portrait mode between the studs in the wall. I cut the plaster, mounted it in a wooden frame inside the opening with a hinge to swing it out to access the backside. The frame is aged barnwood from a barn built in the 1860's in rural Minnesota. It has an Intel ComputeStick mounted behind it running Windows 10 with a custom-built HTML page made to resemble the LCARS interface from Star Trek. Each button is a new page for something in the house that has web control, including ActionTiles for SmartThings. The display is 12 Volt, powered by a brick in the basement, and the ComputeStick is powered by PoE using a PoE to USB Splitter.
