@machination361 what are the deets?
by (570 points)
@khalsa i cover the cost of all the equipment, you’ll get professional installation and I’ll cover the first two months monitoring. Does that sound fair?
by (540 points)
@machination361 depends on details. What are costs?
by (570 points)
@khalsa do you know what you want?
by (540 points)
@machination361 i have alarm. com and want to move on. So i have a bunch of stuff already. I want more cameras
by (570 points)
I use ADC on all my systems, Its the most secure robust platform out there. What are you trying to get away from? Is there a camera capacity issue?

I don't trust any of the wireless ones that don't alarm when a device goes off line. It's easy to block them.

Support a local security company! Anything other then ADT. I would recommend DSC. Been in the field for 16 years.

There is no perfect solution. Most alarm systems your basically paying for the stickers you put on your doors and windows. I use ring because it’s cheap works well and the cost for a year of service is less than the amount of money that I get a discount on my home owners insurance. I also have a dvr with some older wired cameras mixed in with my ring cameras. Dogs are a huge help. Neighbors that look out for you is a huge help and if all else fails good home owners insurance and records of everything you own. I can’t stand adt they use way to many pressure tactics. They don’t make you feel safe they make you feel bullied into getting their system

Certified alarms with some smarts: Elk M1, DSC, Vivint Or roll your own with Zwave devices and event rules. I went with an Elk M1 but to each their own. It all depends on what features you value the most and how technical you want to be.

I’m using SimpliSafe and would give it 4. 5 stars out of 5. You can go monitored or non monitored (free) same alerts just doesn’t dispatch police automatically. Love that it has a built in battery and cellphone integrated so even if power or internet go down you’re still protected. Their customer service is great too! Only reason it doesn’t get a 5 stars is because it doesn’t integrate with others items. So besides Alexa It hasn’t been easy to link to other items or IFTTT. Adding sensors is also expensive. But all in all a great DIY system with fantastic support.

Smartthings (26 multi purpose sensors) with a dome z wave siren, awesome, forget the motion sensors their crap other than turning on lights.

I'd start with a good CCTV system that alerts you by SMS. You can add sirens after but to me it's all about knowing immediately if someone has broken in.

I would say add a few of these signs to your front and back door. Then you won't have to worry about any body trying to get in!

What i don’t like about Ring is that they sell your data to third party companies and the allow government officials to access your camera without your consent. I like owning my privacy

I used to have ring, but after a few package thefts and a car break-in on my street, I realized ring/nest won’t solve the problem for me. I can’t constantly check my phone (especially not in the middle of the night if I’m asleep). Now I use Deep Sentinel, it has all of the same capabilities as ring/nest but live guards can see my feed if the camera detects something suspicious/threatening. The cameras themselves have artificial intelligence built in, so they can filter through harmless noise like pets or cars passing by. Given the fact that the cameras are much more advanced, the system is a bit more expensive than ring but totally worth it. I can sleep good at night knowing my family and I are safe.
by (560 points)
As @sensitometer said above, ring also sells your data and allows government officials to access it without your consent
