Hey all, my parents rent out a basement apartment at their house and they want to get a smart security system that will enable the renter to only access the basement part of the system but give my parents full control. Any good ideas?

Nearly any decent alarm system will allow you to set areas and assign users to them so owners can have access to all areas for setting and unsetting and tenant can have access to their area only

I'd probably use a texecom premier elite panel, pretty straightforward to install and program

I know it can integrate with control 4, but other than that they have their own app etc

They called simply safe and were told that they'd need to have 2 systems. I find that odd. Would something like ring alarm work? They're not the most tech savvy so it needs to be pretty easy to do

This is a normal and standard part of most alarm panels today. Its called a partition and is used for secondary areas, mother in law suites, guest apts, gun or liquor cabinets, etc. I dont know about "simply hacked", but any real alarm panel should offer this feature. It is probably NOT offered in this DIY systems.
