Is there an outdoor solution for Alexa/Echo? Tap was discontinued - did something replace it? Looking for some voice control out on the deck.

I have a battery base for my echo. Lasts for several hours and I like that it is wireless. Use it by the pool all the time.

@mafalda56507 that sounds like an ideal solution for me. Would you recommend the base you are using? If so, where can I find it?

I have had mine for over a year, with normal to heavy use. Never had an issue with it.

@mafalda56507 awesome, thank you. Looks like I can use this with my echo gen1 that I'm not currently using so I may have to grab it

Yeah man! You will like it. Very convenient having it portable. Glad I could help.

@mafalda56507 maybe a stupid question but how do you charge this? I have it connected usb to usb-c and its not giving me any indication it is charging. The instructions say that indicator lights should come on

Hey Tom. So. the echo sits in the battery base. The echo wall cable plugs into the base and the base has a connection to plug into the echo. So the base is always plugged into the wall. When I want to go mobile with the echo, i unplug the connector from the echo that is connected to the base. I will post a picture.

@mafalda56507 I literally just figured this out

@mafalda56507 got it, thanks. The instructions were less than helpful.

I’ve been looking for this also. I think I’m going to do a Sonos move tucked under my soffit. Charger and all. I’ll just bring it in during the winter.

@aquanaut108 does the move take audio commands?! I didn't think had that functionality

As far as I know. but I haven’t bought one yet. If someone knows otherwise I’d love to hear input!

As long as you can keep it from getting rained on directly you could probably put a dot outside.

I should mention I have a few Wyze cameras under my soffit for 2 years. They are not outdoor cameras and haven't had 1 issue.

I had one mounted under the eave powered by a zwave outlet at the old house. Now I just have one plugged in on our covered deck for Sonos and harmony control of the play1 and TV on the deck.

I’ve had one on my back porch (about a 4 foot overhang) for 3 years. Central Florida weather, but never gets wet. It plays to outdoor speakers. Never a problem. Front porch, been there about 6 months, but also much larger and better protected.

My solution was to put Echo Inputs in 2-gang weatherproof electrical boxes mounted next to an outdoor power outlet. I plug in a weather resistant, Bluetooth speaker and pair. Voice control works, but I am nervous about having Alexa enabled outside for security reasons, so I turned off the mic and control via the Alexa app or another Echo inside the house. Pretty easy to take inside during the winter and works well.

@away62949 Rosenbrook I like that solution too. And yes, definitely wouldn't want a permanent one outside unless I could automate the power to it so it would only be on when I'm out there. I decided to use an extra echo gen1 I have and get a battery base that someone else in the thread suggested. I'll just leave it by my door and take it out when I want to use it and turn it on.

I found an Alexa app for my Samsung SmartWatch. Not sure that helps. Also, if you have the Alexa app or Amazon Music app on your phone, both of those have Alexa built in.

I got one of the last TAP's available, I'm glad I did it's versatile and works very well. IDK why they discontinued it.
