Question: I have a long driveway. I want to put a sensor at the end to tell me when a car is pulling in. There are lots of sensors that alarm at a receiver in the house, but I can’t seem to find one that will alert on my phone or through Alexa. Any suggestions?

Just get a ring solar powered outdoor camera and put it up. Then you'll get notifications constantly

Mines like 60ft from the nearest router and works

My driveway is 800 ft long. Why would you need a notification on a 60ft driveway? You should be able to hear a car from that distance.

Not at the back of the house I use ours mostly for seeing who's coming up the 100m driveway we actually have

I have installed a standard IR sensor, and read it the 'trip' with a binary sensor (Z-wave).

Guardline has units with up to 1/4 range. The base has internal contacts that you can wire to other things. They can trigger external devices whenever a signal is received on your receiver. You can use the 12v relay feature to activate powered or unpowered 12v external devices such as strobes or sirens.

@anticlastic here's to hoping that they eventually network connect this so you can kick off other IFTTT events. I'd love do you have one of these that would automatically turn on the flood lights in the event of motion.

@anticlastic I have three of the guardlines and I generally love them (range and battery life are awesome). I do plan to use the 12v trigger to alert as well at some point. Only downside is that, from the external trigger, you can’t tell which of the sensors was tripped. Otherwise they are awesome

@sikorski20 I use a Guardline on my driveway as well. I connected the output to a Konnected board which then is hooked to my SmartThings. I use the connected board for other things such as refrigerator/freezer temp, wired door switches, wired motion sensors, etc. You could use it with relays for garage doors or sprinklers as well.

Some ip cameras have this feature. Else you could use a pressure sensor to achieve this. They are commonly used for your application

My Arlo cameras integrate with Alexa and send a notification to my phone. When there is motion in my driveway, there is an audible alert from alexa and a notification to my phone.

This is probably as close as you can get. Really do not get why they are not making smart versions of these yet.

Love it when some asks and never replies; they should be removed of the group.

Everything mentioned here, I’ve already explored the possibility. I was hoping I missed something and someone here would point me in that direction. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Is there power at the end of your driveway? What sort of smart home eco system do you currently have? Knowing these things will allow others to provide more relevant answers.
