I have geothermal, and id like to be able to control the temp with voice, usually up or down a degree at night. Every article ive read said not to get a smart thermostat. What do you all think?

I'm told, but have not tried doing, that a smart thermostat may work. This was from the equipment manufacturer. My understanding was that the wiring was the same. The caveat being the diagnostic data displayed by the OEM thermostat wouldn't be there in the event of a failure. However, their service staff should have a tool which gets around the issue. I'd reach out to your unit's manufacturer to see what they have to say. Possibly the installer as well.
