Trying to find an add-on garage door opener that opens when we get near the house. I like how the Tailwind system works via Bluetooth and Android but they are currently out of stock. MyQ doesn't get the best reviews. Preferences are Smartthings and Alexa compatible with open/close contact sensors. Any suggestions?

Myq works perfectly when it is properly setup with device handlers and smart apps easily found in the group. works with smartthings as well.

I’m using Tailwind, but it’s been on and off. It hasn’t opened my doors ina few weeks. I like the app when it works, but it drops every time there is an App update, or a puck update, or the door controller update.

I love my Tailwind. On the website it says orders placed now will be shipped on or about May 22.

FWIW, the only issues I've had with Tailwind have been when I've made changes to my network (new modem or changed password). I love the Google integration with voice control.

I just use a smartthings automation that opens the door based on when my phone enters a geofence. I have the added security that it only works when my motorcycle is not already in the garage (based on a smartthings arrival/presence sensor I put under the seat). It's usually about halfway open by the time I ride up to it. I use a smartthings multisensor + Fortrezz mimolite (zwave relay) to automate the garage door. I've had several GoControl/Linear garage door controllers fail and have found this to be a more robust solution.

@unclothe1851 using ST at my lake home. Use Life360 geofence. When we get close, door unlocks. Should be able to do the same with a garage door.

MyQ works for me using the app. For Smartthings, I added the MyQ lite app. You can use geofencing with IFTTT. I use Alexa auto to open the door by voice command in the car Geofencing for me would result in the door opening when I enter the area headed to another location. Opening or unlocking door without you initiating is not the best option

We use the Nexx garage. They recently limited geo fencing to a larger area. This makes it open at greater minimum range. So it’s usefulness might be hampered on your street. This video shows you how it works.
