Anyone use this switch for under the cabinet lighting? My lighting is already installed so I am not looking to change lighting. Just looking to make the existing lights smart. Thanks! Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Lighting ELV Dimmer Switch for Electronic Low Voltage Light Bulbs, PD-5NE-WH, White

I just used the Lutron Caseta' lamp dimmer (PD-3PCL-WH), plugged both my upper cabinets and lower cabinets plugs into it. Works perfectly.

@kendre301 can you still use the wall switch and do the smart settings still work if the wall switch is turned off?

@heaney I do that within Hub (HomeKit) as an automation rule. When the kitchen lights turn on, then turn on cabinet lights. Same thing for off.

I understand but people in my house use the switch too. I have always had to add smart switches because people in my house turn off the switch. If turning off the switch causes the smart plug and subsequent settings in my hub not to work, then it’s not helpful. Is that the case with this device?

Yeah, I'm NOT a fan of smart light bulbs for this very reason. Not sure exactly what you mean. I can turn them on/off multiple ways, I also have the pico remote on the wall that turns them on and off by themselves, and I have the automation based on Kitchen light, and there is a motion sensor that turns them on dim at night if someone comes into the kitchen in the dark. Its not like having a smart bulb that is dependent on having a switch turned on before it gets power. It has power all the time plugged into the outlet.

@kendre301 exactly want I was asking. That’s great to hear. I was worried using the device you linked to causes the same issue smart bulbs cause. Love Pico’s and hadn’t even thought of that. Great idea.

@heaney They're only the 2 prong plug, sorry, didn't realize you needed the 3 prongs. These are only meant for light watts like lamps etc., so your cabinet lights probably use more watts and need the ground. Sounds like it won't work after all.

@kendre301 appreciate the option. I’ll keep it in mind for other projects. Love the Caseta line. Just works.

@heaney Something was not making sense to me, and I was curious so I looked up that LEDI Driver and all the LEDI drivers appear to be a class 2 appliance, meaning they don't require an earth ground. My big guess is that if you opened that LEDI box, you would find that cable's earth ground wire is not connected to anything. It may be that whoever installed it, used the 3 wire cable, and you could replace that wire with a 2 wire cable.

For this, I would totally utilize a sonoff switch if you want to make permanent.

You have to see if your lights are dimmable. Fluorescent lights usually are not. Also lutron, wow that's an expensive switch!

@balk I don’t believe they are. I have all Caseta switches and they are great. Worth it if it’s like the rest!

@heaney you can buy 4 inovelli switches for the price of one lutron with more options than you can handle!
