The "Ultimate" setup always comes down to budget. I'm not willing to break the bank on home automation so i've gone with Home Assistant as the brains, hardwired power and local communication over WiFi (ubiquiti). Devices are as much as possible ESP based with custom ESPhome firmware. If i'd start all over without changing the budget i'm operating within, i'd do it exactly the same way.

This is difficult - I really like Lutron, but having colored bulbs is becoming a necessity. With that, Hue is really nice - but very expensive
