I have a mix of Lutron Caseta and GE/Jasco light switches. I just got the new V3 ST hub. Looking for recommendations for a ceiling mounted motion sensor to trigger the light switches for me. I would like it to be Z wave and recessed. I saw the Aeotec which I liked from the design standpoint, but was not impressed with the reviews. I now Lutron has a recessed motion sensor but in order for it to work I’d have to disconnect the switches from the bridge, which defeats the purpose of smart switches. Any suggestions?

I'm very happy with my Aeotecs on usb power. On battery they're a little laggy because of polling restrictions.

@normi very easily, there's a micro USB port inside the battery compartment. I use a Power over Ethernet (PoE) splitter that provides 5v on a micro USB port.

@normi yes Amazon. You'll also need a PoE capable network switch and ethernet wire to the location. but they're very reasonable. Sorry no link but if you search USB PoE splitter you'll find tons of them. Bonus. Not having to change a battery on a device mounted in the ceiling.

@normi depending on the way you mount it (I used the aeotec recessor which actually uses the battery door as part of the mount) you may need to open a small hole in the battery door for your USB cable. A dremel makes quick work of it.

@normi yes, I found a bag of ethernet Rj45 dust caps on Amazon for a few bucks for 30 of them.

@normi most of mine are mounted about 8-9' off the ground. I use the recessor to angle them toward the door or room sensor I'm trying to cover. One of my rooms has the sensor mounted at 10' and it picks me up across the room (about 15-20')

Lutron just announced a new motion sensor coming in February

Sounds like it will only work inside the Caseta system.

I would start with just the SmartThings motion sensor. It’s zigbee, and I have found zigbee sensors to be faster to respond than zwave sensors.
