Yes. You have to find which one works best for you. Me its the classic.

If you don’t have classic already set up then you may as well go with the new one. They have locked out a lot of features in classic to those who didn’t already have automations written. You can no longer write automation if you did have it already.

That explains why I was unable to get a bunch of things to work when I tried it.

@hokkaido do you mean your can't make smartapps and device handlers?

And if you had routines- they deleted that function

@duckbill no routines donr exist anymore in Classic if yiu didnt have them before they shut them off.

I use classic app and it’s still fully functional, as I’ve been using it since 2015. For those new, automation function has been disabled. As far as I am aware, that’s the only thing missing.

I primarily use the new app. I go back to the old app for details of device history when something unexpected happens. While there is history in the new app it doesn’t tell me what the trigger that a actioned the subject device.

You can use both simultaneously?
by (390 points)
@hemispheroid Yes, that's what I do.
by (390 points)
I do - but I disabled the notifications in Classic, so I don't get notified by both.

Yes. I do too. But mostly classic

Yes. . They both have pros and cons depending on your use. The Classic app works well with older equipment and the custom device handlers that were built with it in mind. The "new" app works with a wider variety of equipment and more is being added all the time. It will also be supported well into the future. You can use both at the same time but there are somethings that work only in one or the other. For instance, you need to set up a V3 hub on the new app.

I use the new app mainly because of how much better and easier it is for automations. I use the classic app for when I have to configure settings on a custom device handler.

They are eventually going to end support of the classic app from my understanding but I don't know what the road map for that looks like.

When is classic going to shut down?
by (21.2k points)
@roberge4470 nobody really knows. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s relegated to manual control only and no new smart app installs by the end of the year.

@crabstick4604 I’m thankful we’re not part of the Wink craziness. but the 2 apps feels clunky and confusing sometimes.
by (21.2k points)
@roberge4470 it is for sure. And it’s been going 2+ years.

I have reluctantly moved over to the new as preferred classic but I was concerned over its future. As an iPhone user household I decided to use homebridge as our user interface and only revert to the new app for integrations and config daily usage for us with the new app was slow with over 72 devices. All my automations provided by webcore.

Actiontiles is more responsive a UI than either of those options. I just use them for setup.

Depends if you are feeling trendy, sleek and moderately adequate or well built, trustworthy, but not so easy on the eyes.

You could argue that the Classic app is better at what it does (but still not great), but what it does is work with ST as it was two years ago. The 'new' app works with ST as it is now and is evolving with it. Once I was finally able to run the new app (no phone or tablet I had met its memory requirements), I switched to it exclusively and completely removed the Classic app, even deleting SHM and Routines. I no longer support the Classic app when I create custom device handlers and am eliminating it from older ones.

Classic ! They should give up with the new app and go back to the original name of Samsung Connect so you can get notified when your Washer & Dryer are done. We all have to have that
