Question

Does anyone know if Samsung plan to put smartthing hub functionality within their phones? not sure if even this is possible? I know they are bringing IR hub to their newer version of phones next year.

They will never put zigbee and z-wave in a phone. If you leave the house nobody in the house can use. And you also can't use it.

@personality1259 no. The mesh technology relies on things being fairly stable and non-transient. If you start moving controllers in and out of the mesh things would go poorly.

@personality1259 I'm not saying there aren't any use cases, although I can't think of any! If you get a Zigbeed device you will normally intend to connect it to something right away, which precludes you from pairing it to your phone when you come along. I'm not aware of any time I would install a lot of Zigbee devices and leave them sitting and waiting for someone to come along and decide he wants to pair them with his phone. The scenario where I may want to travel somewhere and interface with an EXISTING hub/network is much more likely, and for that wi-fi is a better choice.

Hmm, so it would lose contact with all your sensors and switches when you left the house?

That's called the SmartThings app and it's been around for a while!

Also, how would you use these things in a hotel? It’s not like the hotel lights and such are smart.
