I am wanting a smart wifi thermostat which does not require a hub. What are some of the lower to mid-priced options?

Honeywell makes some decent ones

Ecobee does not require a hub. I don't think any of them require a hub, that's a major point of failure for your thermostat to stop working if a hub goes down.

@kofu7 check with your local utilities. They sometimes offer smart thermostats at a substantial discount. I got an ecobee with Alexa for a lot cheaper.

The Emerson Sensi is a solid, reliable WiFi option if you don't need/want the extra sensors that come with a more expensive thermostat like the ecobee. It is priced under $100 and IMO is the best thermostat in its price range.

I did not when I used it (I have an ecobee now). Just make sure you have a c-wire so that the thermostat is connected to constant power rather than a battery.

@klimt9466 Yes, Sensi works great and they email you monthly usage reports.

Tado for example their hub is no bigger than a lighter. Still a hub but really tiny.

I've been using my Honeywell wifi thermostats since 2013 with no issues. You can use a mobile app, a web portal, or link with an assistant like Google or Alexa. At least until the past couple of years. In the past couple of years there has been several outages that occurred with their cloud service that made the thermostat unusable through their online portal/ & app for either part of a day or longer. Probably less than 5 days altogether in the past 7 years or so that I took notice of. The manual controls still functioned like normal.

Ecobee 3 lite. You don’t sacrifice any functionality you just don’t get Alexa when you don’t get the current model. I’ve heard Ecobee is the best as far as integration. It works well with Home Assistant.

I’ve had the Google Nest Thermostat since it came out. It doesn’t require a hub & it works great!
