I’m looking to buy another motion sensor. Should I buy another SmartThings one or is there something better?

I'm a big fan of the GE Jasco Motion switches. No battery to worry about, lights activate without a round-trip to the hub/cloud and they have a hardware based light conditional setting.

@pissed22668 does it show up as two separate things in ST like switch and motion?

@katlin With the custom handler, yes.

I like the Iris 2nd gen motion sensors. They are zigbee and there was a guy selling 10 for $56 in ebay. I bought them and so far 4 of the 6 I've used are all working. Hell of a deal considering they were $30 each new a few years ago.

What makes the Iris better than the SmartThings?

I like that it takes a CR2 battery so I can buy rechargable batteries. The battery seems to last for a few months I think. Depends on how much traffic it gets. They reset after 1 minute. And they are quick when triggered. I have some smart things notion sensors, but never really used them so I can't really comment on them too much.

@dysprosium816 I have several Iris and a few smartthings. Absolutely prefer iris and I haven't had to replace an iris battery yet (started in June) and I've replaced a couple of the Smartthings. Of note, the ebay deal is a great deal (I too have purchased lol) just know those aren't the model with humidity sensors in them if you are looking for that.

Are they available in the uk?

@rakia which rechargeables did you go with? Every time I look for them the reviews are mixed at best so I haven't wanted to jump.

@setzer, I have been using these two.

I like the xiaomi, Fibaro and aeotec. Aeotec is my favorite though. I have it plugged in and it's a 6 in 1 sensor.

The first smart things ones I bought were excellent. I bought 3 or 4 more a couple of years ago and they are garbage compared to the previous generation. If they haven’t improved since then go with iris

Looking for sensors that can be mounted a long distance from the hub. Any recommendations as to one that is good at distance from the hub?
