I feel like my z-wave smoke alarm is unreliable. The battery warnings are random, it will die without ever complaining, and I’m not sure it maintains connectivity. Is there a way to ‘ping’ the device to make sure it’s currently active on the network?

I have 3 of them and share your concerns.

Which alarm do you have? I have the first alert Z wave. I mean, they'll still work as standard smoke alarms, but I share you annoyance that they don't update status reliably.

I'm curious as to if you hit the test button on the alarm, does it show that it's going off in the app? I have 2 of these alarms. I may have to try that tonight.

Yes, it will transmit when you hit test. Instructions say to do it regularly.

Mine are installed in a vacation home, that is often empty.

I have 3 of these in addition to hardwired traditional. Bought the zwave as backups and to install in areas that don't have one already. Laundry room. Attic and garage. They have worked fine but agree battery reporting is inconsistent and you really need to test them. Easy enough when they are easy to reach but a PIA otherwise. Wish the app could test.
