I'm considering buying the Aeotec Zwave Home Energy Monitor Gen 5. Anybody have experience with it? How well it works, and gather data for energy use?

Mine worked great with custom DTH until I lost power and now I can’t get it to register and when I do it drops z-wave connection and says the device is unavailable.

I use it with grovestream. You constantly push data via API protocol and you can have all your reporting on grovestream. it is pretty neat!

I would not waste my time with this. Look into the Brultech GreenEye, 32 channels to monitor most of your breakers, inputs for temp/humidity sensors etc. You can feed the live data to InfluxDB and from there into Smartthings.

Aeon Aeotec devices are great. Work perfectly with ST. You can easily store all data in Google sheet for example for later analysis. Great support also !

I’ve fought with the custom device handlers and still can’t get the wattage broken up by line. Everything else works fine, though.

I've had one running for at least two years. I pump my data to an emonCMS server for tracking and visualization. You can pay for streams for them to host, or setup a Raspberry Pi (or similar) to host locally for cheap.

What will this do for you? does it tell you what devices are consuming all of your energy? I guess it depends on where you live if you really care of energy cost.

I have a few and they work well. New app even has logging/graphing for it but loses the monthly cost/usage totals. :(
