Hoping you guys can help me on a smart home issue I’m having. Just got a Wink Relay and finished wiring it in. My green LED comes on the wall unit but the test buttons are not working. I checked the connect on the wires and then tried putting the faceplate and unit on. The lights go on and flicker and the relay tries to start up but then turns off and starts the process over again. Any ideas?

Is it wired correctly and getting full voltage? Is this a new or used unit?

@quillon usually white/neutral. Black/line or load copper/ground

@sammy that’s what I’ve always gone by and used on my other smart switches (tplink kasa). The back of my relay

Was there a switch there? Have you tested volage?

@sammy just grabbed my voltage tester, thinking the issue is it’s a single loop no neutral. Might have to find a different hookup in the house. It was a light switch there originally

@quillon yea that makes sense. Hate when I pull a switch and see a single romex.

@sammy it was disappointing because the location was perfect.

@quillon there are ways around it You could get the neutral from the fixture wire the fixture hot and use smart bulbs. This nat he against code in some places. And fishing a wire is another option maybe.

@sammy appreciate the options, going to talk to a friend that’s an electrician this weekend and have him take a closer look. I’ve setup multiple of the TP Link Kasa switches so I’m surprised this wasn’t run with a neutral.

At one time, I had six of those wink relays installed in my house. I encountered the problem you were describing with several of them. I found that the connectors on the wall units were bent in to o much and were not making good contact with the relay. If you bend those connectors out ever so slightly to get a better connection that should fix it. Also, I found if possible, the best position for the unit for installation is the center.

BTW. All of my relays have died in under 2 years.

Mine just died recently too about a year and a half. Was really cool and size was fantastic for a double relay and screen but reliability was terrible.
