I’m really surprised the new app still doesn’t have a way to do automated lighting, only if the light is off already. Say I want motion detection to turn my light on and off. I setup an automation to turn on with motion, then turn off 30 seconds after motion stops. Problem with this is if I had my lights on manually before the motion, the automation still turns off my lights if any motion is detected. I know there is a WebCore piston that solves this, but it’s much nicer working local and the piston would bug out from time to time on me.

Basically you want the motion sensor or the motion sensor routine to be disabled if the light is turned on with the app/switch/button/voice control?

@hashim22 you can make a virtual switch for that light that has override rules.

@hashim22 ok mine is setup like this. Made an override virtual switch for the light. Under the smart lighting app light turns off when motion stops after say 10 mins and then at the bottom there is a “only if switch” option. Make this the virtual switch and only if it is off. When the switch is on the motion off should not happen.

@hashim22 you could use a SmartThings switch next to the regular light switch? Then use what I said above but only with the actual smart switch? I hate having to design things around someone else not wanting to do something haha.

@hashim22 wait what if you just put the dimmer switch as the option. The motion off will only happen when dimmer switch is off.

@hashim22 yes
