I have an older Genie Intllicode garage door opener and i was originally thinking about getting a GoControl Linear but heard they do not last long and my father in law has one and confirmed that as well. Now i am thinking about a Garadget. any thoughts? better choices?

This was a fun little project I did for my opener from this video

I just used a Konnected board. Wired into the closed micro switch and used a relay output across the Opener button.

If a wired option wasn’t possible I’d have used a MIMOlite. I don’t use anything on battery power!

Mine's been working for 2 1/2 years. The only problem I have is it goes offline occasionally and needs to be power cycled. Other than that, it works great.

You own the Garadget or the GoControl?

@detention GoControl

@duration362 my issues were on the iris system. On ST it's been solid. It also helped that I added a repeater into my mix.

@mitis I'm using ST as well. It isn't very far from another z-wave device, so I'm not sure why it checks out. I have an outlet to install that will save me from having to flip the breaker on those moments.

@duration362 I was using a smart plug to reset mine remotely.

Same here, using ST, my GoControl only had 1 problem, of course that was the time I locked myself out of the house. But other than that, it has worked flawlessly.

Reviews including one from my father in law, have show quite a few have an issue 1 year or so where it dies. My father in laws died around the 1 year mark and he is considering the Garadget as well

I use the Gocontrol I have one that failed within 12 months with the common issue (its very fixable with moderate soldering experience) That said I also have two more that are currently well older than 24 months.

While looking what is in the SmartThings App for "garage door" i came across what seems to be a very cool product from Tailwinds that i may check out

@detention interesting - haven't seen that one before.

@sixpack I like this one for the fact I could pull up on my motorcycle and finally get the door open when no one is home

@detention You could just use a basic rely on your garage door button, whatever presence sensor you're using and a simple automation to do it too. The video above shows how, it's pretty easy.

@detention this does look like a nice package though - clean design, if it works as well as their marketing indicates, good to go.

@detention Harley has a plugin module for thier bikes that works great and integrates into the hi beam switch. I have mine wired into the same bundle my GoControl is wired into. Once you have a GDO on your bike you will never own another bike without it. But of course in typical Harley fashion. HD means Hundreds of Dollars. *sigh*

If you're looking for a Garage door controller/integrated FHD Surveillance Camera this Alcidae SMART Garager2 may be a good choice. It works with most Genie Motors, with exception to a Series III
