I’m a Home Assistant guy, but I have to say, I hated dealing with HomeKit. That’s as someone who loves most apple products. Very clunky to use

If you want a real home automation you can go Savant since you have apple. But it's not self install DIY type of deal.

All HomeKit devices must have Apple’s approval and pay Apple royalties, thus the breadth of products and integetrationa is limited. Go with Google or Alexa, and a Zigbee hub.

Alexa, IFTTT, plus almost any home automation device. Of course rely on internet and not local control.

I’ve done everything HomeKit compatible. Ecobee, Lutron, Schlage, myQ. It’s not the best but it’s worked for me so far. I will say that if you go HomeKit compatible for now, it’ll be easy to switch over to Google or Alexa later if you decide to.

I’m a newbie here too. I’m an apple guy as well. Started with HomeKit and IFTTT but was really frustrated because I wanted to have more control and IFTTT was slow and unreliable. Also HomeKit didn’t play well with ecobee. It set it in vacation mode and then HomeKit would take me out vacation mode when we left for our trip and put us back on normal schedule.

I just installed Home Assistant. I haven’t gotten very far but it’s already sooooo much better. You do have to be a bit techie but it’s not that hard!

I’d steer away from anything Google for privacy purposes!

Hi, I have just added a Meross garage door closer to my garage door opener and it works well, I now want to create something in the SmartThings app (new version) that checks the garage door at 10pm and if it is open closes it.

A total automation noob so here it goes: For MyQ garage doors management ( 2 doors), is using SmartThings better than setting it up with Alexa?

I've done some searches to see if MyQ works with Smartthings and several sources says it does, but when I try to add a garage door, MyQ is not listed as one of the options.
