I have a new home (been challenging in this Covid environment) I need something to alert me when the garage door goes up. Which one do you recommend and how will it work away from the hub? I can try and put a repeater in the garage but not sure it will go thru the wall?

If you just want notification, stick a Samsung mutisensor on the door as a tilt sensor

@limacine1 @vouchsafe12715 OK, I see it now. The setting is in both the new and the old ST Apps. When I set mine up you had to use the IDE. Just need the multipurpose sensor which is able to detect if it is vertical or horizontal as well as vibration and temperature as a bonus if you care about those.

Candace, the same setting is in the new app

Steve, the temperature is a bonus. I have a notification setup to let me know when the garage temp is close to freezing so I can take the hose, car washing stuff, etc inside for the winter

@vouchsafe12715 Nice. I have the opposite problem here in Phoenix!

Ok so my handyman was asking about this on the lanai slider also. Do you do the same thing to them?

Meaning only put up 1/2 of it?

Is that a sliding glass door? If so, you’d need the magnet piece in that application
by (1.2k points)
@limacine1 No, you'll need the halves to separate to open the sensor when it is mounted vertically and stays vertical. like that.

Looks like you maybe able to mount the larger portion on the door itself and the magnetic piece on the frame so they meet when closed. Hard to tell from the pic without knowing how wide each of those surfaces are. Is the door wired for a security system? I have a house built in 1998 with all doors and windows using wired magnetic sensors for the alarm system. I replaced the alarm controller with konnected. io and love the way each sensor is now a smart thing.

Not wired for security system.

Ecolink tilt sensor. easy as pie
by (1.9k points)
@manichaeism Is this better than a multi purpose for garage door?
by (5.9k points)
@limacine1 the Ecolink is more expensive, but I have no experience using it
by (1.4k points)
I've used this for 3 years and it works perfectly. No connection issues at all. I'm not sure I've even replaced the batteries yet. Note - I do have a lot of other Z-Wave devices that it can network with, including 3 others in the garage. I have a pretty strong mesh.

@melissamelisse Which one are you talking about? The Ecolink?
by (1.4k points)
@limacine1 Sorry. Yes, that wasn't clear. I am using the Ecolink.

So if senses if it is moving how do you know if it is open or closed?
by (5.9k points)
Are you referring to the multipurpose sensor?

When using the sensor as a tilt sensor, it senses two positions, vertical (closed) and horizontal (open)
by (1.9k points)
@vouchsafe12715 Any special instructions on how to add it as a tilt sensor? Do I add it as a multi purpose and just say it is a garage? Or more to it?
by (5.9k points)
You can make the change in the sensors settings. See my screenshot in an above comment.

I think this might be an issue with too far from the hub Because it is now not seeing the sensor at all. I need to add a repeater. I have some Innr Zigbee/z wave but how do I add them? I don’t see the brand listed?
by (1.9k points)
As I suspected I needed 1 or 2 repeaters!
