So my Nest thermostat forced me to move my nest account to Google sign-in option. Because of this my nest app is broken in ST. How can I force the ST app to sign into nest using the Gmail account?

You can't - you're done with integration between Nest and ST until they come up with the replacement to the Works with Nest API.

You can’t. ST and Nest no longer play well together. Google ended the Works with Nest program in August 2019. I replaced my Nest thermostat with Ecobee.

It didn't force you. I'm still using a Nest account. (but in my other house - I bought Ecobee)

Until they force enable 2 Factor later this year. That's going to hose all of us. :(

@anatolia7046 I have 2FA enabled with my Nest account.

@unclothe1851 I didn't have it - I dread the day they force it.

@anatolia7046 Pretty sure I enabled it *after* the whole new account thing. it didn't force me to transition

@unclothe1851 Heh -- I'll find out and report back when they do until then I'm not screwing with my token at all.
by (12.9k points)
@anatolia7046 It doesn't invalidate tokens.

@unclothe1851 Hmmmmm - that's promising. I'm a BIG 2FA advocate - but this one I've been really avoiding.

I am not sure how this happened, i used to use my nest app almost everyday, and one fine day it was signed off, and when i tried to sign it, it would not allow me, and a message was showing about moving to Gmail authentication.

Making the switch to Ecobee was quite the eye opener. My electric bill is considerably less when compared to the same bill last year with Nest.

Would have to see runtime reports to see why that is :) Maybe it's just a bit warmer. What do you think is working better, the auto home/away?

@unclothe1851 The comparison provided by my power company includes average temp and number of days in the cycle. It is the room sensors and signing up for Eco+ I use Smartthings Ecobee Manager to set Home/Night/Away based on STMH. With Nest there was only the thermostat to determine the current house temp. By using Ecobee occupancy and temperature averaging I’m seeing about a 22% reduction

RIP you're done unfortunately, there are NO other options to integrate with SmartThings again. I'm not sure what you mean by forced move to the Google sign in option? I'm still using my normal Nest sign in.

Hmmm, maybe they're forcibly slowly migrating people. Mine was logged out the other day but I could still login with Nest (though I recall the option was tiny).

I am planning to now move out to Ecobee, how good is the integration of ST with Ecobee, is it a hackjob/Workaround like nest used to be, or is there a solid official integration?

@lonna solid official

@unclothe1851 Cool, thank you. Ordered the latest one.

Yeah ecobee/ST integration is about as deep as it gets.
