We are booked to go to Gran Canaria in August, we booked it last October before the pandemic. We are booked as a package holiday with EasyJet and have so far only paid the deposit. We have had an email from Easyjet today advising that we can cancel the holiday without losing our deposit, we can have the deposit returned as a voucher to be used on a booking any time in the next 12 months. Or we can carry on with the booking and pay our balance (90 days before we travel) and just see what happens. I was being optimistic about the possibility of still going this year even though its unlikely to happen. We have looked and the same holiday next year is £200 cheaper. So my suggestion was to cancel our August holiday and rebook it for August 2021, saving the extra £200 and then if holidays this year do resume maybe we could go away later in the year either the October half term or for my birthday in December. What would you all do, wait and see or cancel now? Has anyone looked or booked a holiday for later on this year if so are the prices low compared to normal?

I’d check with the travel agents as I’m sure I read that the canaries won’t be allowing holidays until October time. Grab a cheap deal next year and stay safe

I'd take the voucher and re-book, even if people from the UK are allowed to travel later in the year, some places might not be open to tourists by then xx

We're booked for August with easy jet. Balance due beginning of june. Been chipping away at it every month. I'm carrying on as normal, will pay the balance and if the holiday does go ahead we will be going if it gets cancelled than we will rebook for next year and gives us another year to save even more spending money.

Personally I think I’d book for next year and save £200! It’s so hard really because if the travel ban is lifted there’s always the possibility that there might still be some restrictions! Plus you might leave it and find holidays for next year end up going up!

We're booked with Tui to in September, remaining balance due by 22/06. We have decided to keep paying (we have £400 left to pay) and just see what happens. If we can go, great and if we can't i'll take the refund credit and book a new holiday for early next year.

I’m Booked for end of July to benalmadena and we were due to fly to my brothers wedding in Ibiza on 1st July! Ibiza has been cancelled and I have a feeling end of July will be too! I very much doubt as optimistic as I was a few weeks ago anyone will be going anywhere this year I feel even haven, Butlin’s etc won’t happen! I personally do not think holidays will go up if anything they will come down just like they did a few weeks after Thomas cook collapsed! If they make holidays more expensive they will just be shooting themselves in the foot people won’t travel and Spain etc rely on tourism! If anything I think things will be cheaper x

People being advised not to take vouchers as not endorsed (Martin Lewis did big item on it)
by (190 points)
@usury my 18yr old son and his 8 pals have also been offered vouchers - they just want their deposit back as they don’t know where they will all be next year. I’ve emailed them to request for him(using his name) do you have the article you mentioned?
by (190 points)
@usury thanks so much

@doggo62 no probs. It was definitely on one show I saw it but guess he’s said on other programs etc. He was adamant vouchers are not endorsed so no refund etc if it goes wrong

@usury thank you. Will see what they say to our latest request.

To be honest we don't mind having the vouchers as intend to re book possibly the end if this year and next summer

@nephritis just remember they’re not protected so if anything happens you won’t get your money back

@elihu nobody knows. It's a day by day thing currently. Unless you're a scientist advising the government you know as much as everybody else does

@hullo lol

@elihu exactly. Being a frontline worker doesn't give you exclusive knowledge. Having hope isn't a bad thing, having something to potentially look forward to isn't a bad thing after the last few weeks of being cooped up.

I'm flying to Tenerife end August. Not cancelling mine for now. Have a small amount left to pay in July. I'm playing the waiting game for now. If cancelled. I will rebook for next year.

Even if you do get to go which is a very slim possibility. Theres the chance you could get there and be confined to your rooms or still have alot of restrictions. Myself, I'd get my deposit back and rebook for next year. Were due to fly in a couple weeks and still waiting to hear.

I live in Spain and at the moment they are saying that people from other countries will not be permitted to enter the country before October, unless people are residents in Spain .

Thank you all for your advice and opinions, they are very much appreciated. I hadnt thought about the getting there and being in a state of lockdown still, i will have a chat with the family members we are booked to go with and suggest we postpone this year's until next summer and maybe go later in the year too

I would wait till it's safe to go. A lot of shops and restaurants might still be shut and hotels also excursions so wont be anything to do.

I'd take the Voucher and Cancel and start again. Good of them to give you that options imo. It's a nightmare, every body is not having there holidays this year and no certainty when flights could resume x

You could check out Martin Lewis fb or website but I would say v v unlikely to go in August. Most airlines are only cancelling 2 weeks b 4 departure. I’d get your deposit back b 4 they potentially go under.
