We’ve got a caravan booked in Cornwall for June which we now know we won’t be going to but the park is only offering us to change our date, no refund. can they do that? Does anyone know where we stand with it? All the other dates we could do are so much more which we can’t pay. Thank you.

I believe if they can’t accommodate you, in other words if they can’t provide the service you are/have paid for, they have to refund. They are the ones breaking the contract. They will be able to claim it back of their insurers xx

Haggle. They need your money or potentially facing ruin. But make it clear what you have booked. Tell them you are happy to book a comparable holiday at a reasonable price or you want a refund. Check your terms and conditions as well.

They’ve now told me they will refund but will be taking off the 25% deposit!

You are entitled to a full refund if you are not allowed to go (government rules) if you don’t get the money back go to your bank and dispute the payment on the basis that you never received the service.

@coactive10683 does this government rules mean if you own a holiday home (Chalet) do we still have to pay council tax and ground rent as we can’t access our properties
by (990 points)
@katinka I would assume so, as you still have to if it was empty anyway

@tractor as the site is only open 8 months the council adjusts the council tax so we only pay for 8 mths not 12 as the site is closed and locked. The same as now. So we should get another reduction as we are not allowed to go and they are shut. For the £900 I spend a year on council tax all I’m allowed to use are the parks and I’m allowed a library card all for £900 a year. So I few pounds taken off won’t really matter
by (990 points)
@katinka then you’d have to check with the council
by (530 points)
@tractor we have and just told pay it or sell up. The council don’t want to talk about it with anyone and people’s MPs are just washing their hands and saying the same thing. So stuck really

Dont accept anything other than 100% refund. We had booking with Hoseasons who are one of the largest uk holiday break companies and they tried the exact same tactic, no refund, then partial refund. CMA issued a warning they will enforce and even prosecute any uk holiday companies who penalise customers or dont offer refunds, we got our full refund through last week

We got full deposit back as the park had closed due to Covid rules. Ours was non refundable in the first instant. No probs what so ever. I would not accept anything other than 100% refund.
