Just curious.  How many lbs did it take for you to drop a size in pants?Just curious. How many lbs did it take for you to drop a size in pants? I never wear my pants tight, but I feel like it takes a lot of weight for me to drop sizes. Anyone else experience this?

@meet21 Holcomb Same. Plus they were tight when I started and now they are a tad loose.

Yep. I have a smaller pair that I’m working to get into. Hopefully I will lol

@repeal exactly. Never base your success on anyone else.

I think it’s because almost all pants have spandex in them so they conform to our bodies better as we loose weight! I’ve lost 42 lbs and am still wearing the same pants! A little saggier in the bum and a little looser in the legs, but still look ok

About 10-15 lbs per size.

8-10 pounds and my pants were falling off. I lose more inches than weight.

I lost shoe and bra sizes, my middle spare tire, face, arms, legs and finally a little bit around my tummy, hips and butt. Took a long time. but that's OK. People noticed in my face and I started wearing leggings to show off my thinner legs. At my age, my pants size will be last and there's not a lot to do to make the weight come off where we want. I am not a big exerciser but that can help somewhat. I'm still happy for the 45 lb. loss. My knees are grateful too. :-)

Yes! I’m 5’7” and it took like 20 lbs for me to drop from a size 12/31 in pants/jeans to a 10/30. I’m now down about 28 lbs and 10s are loose but most 8s are still too tight.
by (1k points)
Size 12 are too big on me but size 10 is too tight. I need a 11 but there is no such size. arggggg. I now have only one good pair of jeans the rest are leggings or dress pants

It was both for me. took longer to drop sizes when I started and then at the end it was like every 10 lbs. went from a 16/18 to an 8/10 with a 65 lbs loss

For me It takes be about 35 lbs before I’m in a completely new size. I’ve had friends who say it’s only 10-15 for them and some say 20. I think it’s where and how people lose their weight.

I also feel that way. I cant focus on clothes size. Just how I feel and getting healthy!

I had heard it was between 15 to 20 lbs for 1 dress size.

by (2.6k points)
It probably depends a lot on your height and where you carry your weight, also where you lose it too. I seem to lose inches in my waist first which doesn’t change my pant size too quickly. I’m 5’10”. I think it takes me about 20 lbs. to change a jean size, possibly more depending on how tight they are. I don’t stress about the size of my pants as much as how comfortable I am wearing them.

For me it was about 15-20, but I’m really short. It will vary depending on how tall you are.

Me too, I’ve lost 40 lbs and have only gone down one pant size. I know the reason though. Carried a lot of my weight around the midsection, still have more to lose. I’ll just keep at it.

I found it took the first twenty to drop a size. then after that about 12 to 15. I guess it depends on your starting body size . and the make of clothes too. you’ll know by how they fit ! Happy Shopping !

Same here. I read that people who loose 10 lbs say I dropped a size. Not me. Like you I wear my clothes on the looser side.

I thinks it’s all in where you are losing weight. I lose it first in my upper body and with exercise, my lower. It may take me a different amount of weight loss to go to a different size pant.

I’m down almost 25# and have dropped in pants from size 20 to 16 and some of them are getting a bit baggy. Each person different. Depends upon how you carry your weight.

by (3.8k points)
Completely depends where you carry weight. Mine is all boobs belly n arms. So pants size was slower to change. But tops i went from 2xl to medium in no time.

For me it seems like I have to drop about 30-40 pounds to fit comfortably in the next size down. 20-18, 18-16. But I’m probably uncomfortably stuffing myself into the sizes not trying to be a higher size.
by (1.1k points)
@bowerbird29 same here. I think with the stretch jeans I really stretch them
by (3k points)
@bowerbird29 I'm the same way. I've lost 25 pounds and just now can for some of a smaller size. I started at an 18 size 2x top. An occasional 16 will fit me now

I told myself I wasn’t buying any pants til I got to a desired weight. I had gained a few. Now I am slowly losing weight and exercising. Today my jeans fit comfortably. I am working toward my spring and summer wardrobe. Now all the winter stuff in the stores is on sale and I don’t want them. Saving $$

When I started I was a tight 20/22. 60 pounds later, a loose 18. all I know is I feel better and size is just a number, and I do not worry about things in the dryer! I call it a NSV!

My 18s were tight when I started now 14s are really to big and that's with 45 lbs lost. I dont know if I tracked how much between clothing sizes. I was just happy to be getting healthy and thinner

I really think it depends on the style of pants. My pants are all still fitting fairly well around my waist (unfortunately! ) but they are sooooo baggy in the thighs.

by (10.4k points)
Pants are terrible-the way that they are all sized differently and fit different bodies differently. I carry my extra weight in my hips, thighs and butt. I currently have sizes 16, 12, 10, and one 8 in my closet and they all fit me. So I don't put too much stock in pants sized for women. If they fit, I buy them no matter what that inside label says. :)

About 10 lbs, but it really depends on how tight the pants were before. If I were trying to stuff 30 extra lbs. into a 10 lb sack, it would take a while to notice. :) Happened to me in the beginning.

The bigger you are the more pounds between sizes. Going from a 6 to a 4 may be 7-10 pounds while going from a 24 to a 22 could be 20 to 40 pounds depending on where you carry weight and how you lose it, and also how stretched out the pants are that you’ve been wearing for awhile.

Also where the clothes are made. If they are made in Asia, then the clothes are made smaller for the sizes. If they are made in Europe, they are usually larger.
