I have a question?  I had a smoothie for breakfast and used all foods on the zero points list.I have a question? I had a smoothie for breakfast and used all foods on the zero points list. It had the following ingredients 1 cup fresh pineapple 6 frozen strawberries 1/2 cup water 3/4 cup ice 1/8 teaspoon trivia Splash if lemon juice. I thought this would be zero points. But was told it has points because I made it into a smoothie. Question is how many points is it?

It has to do with the glycemic Index when blended/already broken down. Blended fruit can be 5-10 points where if you chew it yourself it’s 0. Enters the blood stream much slower.

@enfeoff100 that makes no sense It's still the same calorie wise and same glycemic index

@deflagrate just passing along what I read on the WW app. I agree, I was very surprised. I don’t do smoothies but I passed the info on to someone I know was counting zero for theirs.
by (1.5k points)
@deflagrate it comes down to you burning calories to chew, then to digest the solids of the fruit. When the fruit is blended, your body has to do less work to break it down to prep it for digestion. So, blended=less calories used to break down, and Non-blended= body works to break down=calories burned. Thus whole fruit is 0 points.

@masjid sorry doesn't make sense.

@deflagrate no worries. I noticed someone else posted a link, it may shed more light on the subject!

4 points for the pineapple and 1 point for the strawberries. The rest would be free. 5 points.

Just look up your fruits and “blended”

I would put the ingredients in the recipe part of the app and use those points

What she said if you are following the plan strictly. The recipe builder asks if it is a drink. Part of the thought process is that you wouldn't eat all of that fruit in one sitting. Really easy to over do the recommended serving size on a smoothie. That being said, there are many who have a smoothie or two a week and don't count the fruit. I feel it's a personal choice. It's all about what affects your weight loss.

This is from WW.
by (13.9k points)
@pfister Thank you! It has NOTHING to do with enzymes or your body working harder to chew and break it down, blah, blah, blah. That's all nonsense. The above is straight from WW. It's about it being easier to "eat" too much fruit in smoothie form. You could potentially consume more than reasonable servings of zero pt fruits once they're blended. So they assign points to blended fruit, to help keep you in check. Zero pt foods don't mean unlimited quantities.

I REFUSE to count the points from smoothies. Fruit is fruit. Period.
by (1.3k points)
@elissa your body doesn’t have to break the fruit down in smoothie form opposed to eating it normally. That’s what I was told at a WW meeting by the leader.
by (530 points)
@eda1430 I don’t really care the reasoning. It’s something I strongly disagree with. This is a personal journey and folks must do what works for them. I don’t count smoothies. Period.
by (4.6k points)
@elissa same. I use one banana in my morning smoothie and never count it. If I hit a plateau maybe I will but I'm steadily losing so I'm counting that banana as a zero point fruit blended or not
by (2.5k points)
Me neither. I put a banana and a handful of blueberries in with my nonfat greek yogurt and don't count a thing. It fills me up for hours. I mean, I keep losing, right?

I dont count the points in my smoothies! Fruit is fruit ! It does not change calorie wise just because its blended
by (2.6k points)
Apparently it does because your body doesn't have to work as hard to digest it and the fibre is broken down when its blended.
by (1.1k points)
@ashwell that’s exactly the right answer
by (2.5k points)
I still don't count it, down 40 lbs. I feel full for hours.

I personally don’t count the fruit in my smoothie but then I only add 1 fruit of my choice and I still lose weight I didn’t get fat from the 1 smoothie I drink a day
by (2.5k points)
@capitulary exactly.

When you blend or dry fruit it releases more sugars also drinking a smoothie in five minutes makes you hungry in 20
by (530 points)
@swigart that’s weird. I have a smoothie twice a week for breakfast and it lasts me until lunch. ‍♀️
by (2.8k points)
@swigart this is just not true.

Do what works for you. Just know the program you are paying good money for has researched the difference between the outcomes. Count, don’t count. Up to you.

SO much misinformation being spread. WW has provided the answer.
by (530 points)
@aglitter75 and I strongly disagree with their stance on blended fruit. Fruit is fruit.
by (13.9k points)
@elissa I agree- fruit is fruit, but I do tend to put more fruit in a smoothie than I would normally eat‍♀️ I just limit myself and don't have one every day It just bugs me- all the mumbo-jumbo answers people give as to why WW assigns points to smoothies.
by (530 points)
@aglitter75 and it irritates me all the nonsense about this issue. Good grief, none of us got fat eating fruit smoothies.

I choose lower point fruits, add spinach and protein powder, gets me satisfied until lunch. I don't count the points. The convenience is worth it to me.

I like green plan because fruits are0 points
by (7.1k points)
@mairamaire3 ina smoothie they would be points in all 3 plans
by (5.9k points)
@mairamaire3 Fruits are 0 points on Blue plan as well UNLESS they are blended and that is true on all plans (to the best of my knowledge)
by (15.4k points)
@merrile Barber Pine thank you , I’m not familiar with the other plans , I’ve always been on green
by (5.9k points)
@mairamaire3 No problem. that’s what we’re here for.

4 points for 1 cup of blended pineapple + 1 point for 6 blended strawberries = 5 points; balance of ingredients are 0 points.

5 and I'd count the points

Zero fruit that is blended has to be counted. That is because you drink it. It is zero if you eat it. There is a difference
by (530 points)
@giltzow there is no difference. Fruit is fruit.
