How do you stay on plan when it’s your Birthday and your crazy husband brings home a piece of carrot cake, two large red velvet cupcakes and two large strawberry cupcakes from Edgars Bakery? I’m dying here.
How do you stay on plan when it’s your Birthday?

It’s your birthday. Mine was yesterday and I went on a getaway with my husband and indulged in dinner, drinks, and brunch. I also had birthday cake last night. I’m back on track today. Life is full of celebrations and part of celebrating is sometimes food. Celebrations aren’t all about food, but it’s unrealistic to think food isn’t often a component. We have to learn to enjoy, then move on and get back on track. Maybe sample a little piece of each of indulge in your favorite, and then let your husband have the rest or bring it to work tomorrow. But please know that you can stay on plan and have cake. One night of having cake on a special occasion isn’t going to sabotage you. It’s what we do the majority of the time that affects our weight.

We’ve been married over 41 yrs and for VD, he always brings me candy and other nice gifts. I take a bite of every piece that I like and put rest in box so when he opens, they are all chewed up. he finally stopped buying me chocolates but it’s taken forever for him to get the message

Hi and happy bday. I honestly do not think anyone who told you to indulge actually read the entire post. Of course you can’t eat ALL that regardless if it’s a special day. A bite of each yes. One cupcake yes. One slice of cake yes. Maybe he didn’t know which flavor you wanted most.

Enjoy your birthday. Just have a small serving of your favorite and freeze the rest. I make desserts for my husband and sons all the time, they don't tempt me at all. This is going to be a life time journey for us and these occasions are always going to be popping up. You can't let them control you. Eat a piece of cake or cupcake and enjoy it. You can either freeze or share the rest. Happy Birthday  and good luck!

Its your Birthday. Happy Birthday by the way, eat a sliver of each, freeze the rest indivually. and next yr on your Birthday take it out and by that time u will be able to look at it and u probably will decide u don't even want it. because u will realize it feels better to look good and better yet to feel wonderful than a taste of cake, if u stay away from sugar u will lose the desire for it. I read that sugar is more addicting than Heroin. think about that. but u need to get it out of your system, takes about a wk, but don't cheat and eat sugar during that wk because u need that full wk to kick the desire for it. good luck! @shuler37 Ellen, have agreat Birthday!
by (2.3k points)
@complemental You are so corrected about the sugar addiction and I have it. I gave it up for a year while I was taking Chemo and was not sick but one time. I limit the amount I have now to only a couple of times a year. It’s so hard to give it up again when I do give in.
by (3.7k points)
@shuler37/activity" class="qa-user-link">shuler37 Ellen, sorry about your chemo. that has to be awful. I don't think I could go that long without one piece of candy. but actually if u are at least making an effort to not eat it every day is a win for me, I think, I have a very addictive personality. love to gamble, eat wrong stuff, and I have always thought if I wasn't careful could likely become an alcholic. wow, what a piece of work I could be. but I work at being good in many ways every day. I strive to be the best that I can be and if that means a piece of candy once in a while so be it, . I try to have that one piece of candy somewhere there is only one piece available to me or where someone will slap my hands if I reach for more. haha. @shuler37/activity" class="qa-user-link">shuler37 Ellen. so much Good Luck for u and your wgt loss journey. if u can let me know how u are doing. ok!
