I'm looking for ways to lose this weight without re injuring my knees. I just got a fit bit and I'm loving it. Had anyone else here gone they similar? What works for you?

Have lost 47 lbs after a TKR eating on the blue ww plan and riding a recumbent bicycle. I ride easy nothing crazy. I have hypothyroidism and was 57 years old at the time. Today I am 60 and still maintaining.

@die54 how long and how often do you ride. I’ve had TKR too.

@coffeecolored409 I originally started for 5 minutes, 3 days a week in rehab 6 weeks out. During the 1 month of rehab I think I was up to 10 minutes. And that's what I stayed at at home. After a couple months I added another 10 minute session so 2 10 minute rides a day. Of course if I hurt or swelled or anything really bothered me I adjusted to that. Nothing was set in stone. Except the diet part. Like I said I went really slow and let my knee do the talking. And I should say for the1st 6 months I didn't even adjust the tension level. I just rode the bike. Sometimes really slow other times at a steady pace. As long as your moving and watching what you eat you will lose weight. I know we have all read women saying "if I can do it anyone can". Well that's what I want to say and really mean it. I have been over weight with bad knees for a long time. Swimming and walking just never did it for me like everyone suggested. I never joined ww just joined a couple of groups on line asked a lot of questions and followed recipes I found in the groups or on Pinterest. I put myself on 23 sp a day. I hope this helps you. Also my husband bought me just a basic recumbent bicycle nothing fancy.

@azimuth how about a computer to do chair and exercises small weights until you’re stronger. You tube has many, many videos.

Ankle surgery here. The food part is the best part to control when you’re trying to get back. I’m walking and hoping to move into running again

@azimuth My husband used to be so heavy. just shy of 400 lbs. he had such a hard time moving around. He finally started walking at his pace. first to the end of the driveway (maybe 10 ft) then over to the mail box, (just across the street), he'd have to sit on the steps before he could make it up to the door. (2 steps). then slowly over time he would increase his distance. It took him awhile, but finally was walking a mile + and with WW lost 180 lbs. Years before the weight loss he had had 3 knee surgeries so was limited. Now 10 years later he is so much more active and has maintained a 160 lb loss. so gained a little but still good. Just hang in there and start out VERY SLOW you know your limits.

@azimuth Understand. He always had his phone on him just in case he needed a ride back, even from the end of the sidewalk. And he always had to remember that he had to get back so had to really watch how his body was feeling. I am so proud of him, he has kept the majority of his weight off and is currently working on getting what he did gain back of.

I have an ankle issue so my exercise consists of anything I can go on my butt or in a pool. Luckily my gym has 2 pools . 1 cold and 1 warm. I’m a baby and really dislike being in cold water so the warm pool is my go to place Anyway, I’m a horrible swimmer but the gym has flotation belts for ppl to wear so I’ve been slapping on one of those , grabbing some water hand weights and basically treading water for 30 min 3-4 times a week while using the water weights and getting a nice workout in. It’s really relaxing Have also been hitting some yoga classes . no flow classes . either beginner or yin (which is stretching while laying down) Have lost 17lbs since mid October !
