Anyone else feel like they wear clothes two sizes bigger thinking it makes you look smaller? This was recently pointed out to me by a couple friends and I think I’m guilty of this.

Not really - did it when I first lost just because $$ - but started thrifting clothes and shopping end of season clearances.

@skilful3675 I do the same, I enjoy now going to some stores that were “forbidden “ for me before as they do not sell XL clothes

Although iI still find many stores/companies just don’t cut clothes for womanly curves!

A lot of people do! It took me a while to figure out wearing clothes that actually fit is far more flattering!

It doesn’t necessarily make you look smaller but the rolls don’t look as bad.

It doesn’t make you look smaller but unpolished. It’s not flattering.

I wear larger clothes. My opinion is that it is more flattering. I say if you wear tight clothes that cling tightly to every fat roll or bump on your body, it just highlights your (over) weight. If you wear larger clothes that just skim your body, people have to guess how much fat you might be covering up.  Besides I find tight clothes very uncomfortable.

Takes a while for your brain to catch up with your body

Since I have lost it has been really hard for me to wear a smaller size. Especially since my size is sometimes too small. If I wear a bigger size it always fits. I read that when you wear a bigger size, the eyes of others fill in the extra space of the bigger garment. Making you look bigger. This is encouraging me to wear smaller sizes.

I do this  but then I realize I look smaller when I actually wear fitted clothing. But I don’t feel comfortable doing that yet.

At my largest I did, but then I would alter it (gather the material and add a pin, add a belt, tie it) to give it some shape, but now that I'm 85lbs less, I've gained so much more confidence and wear the size I am now and feel so much better not having to alter it in some way.

It's a balancing act. Clothes that are too tight flatter no one. And too big does not show the success and effort of your weight loss. At Christmas I opened a card from my sister, it was a gift card to a local clothing store and she wrote "go buy yourself something that fits! ". Lol

I use to wear larger loose clothing, but not so much anymore. I don't wear skin tight, but enjoy a size 12 from a 20!

I do wear clothes that are too big because I don’t want to buy new ones

The more tailored and better fitting the clothing, the slimmer you look.

I had been looking for a black long sleeved top that I wore years ago. I finally found it and it's huge on me. I guess that's a non-scale victory. Most of my clothes are too big on me, but I can't bring myself to buy new clothes. I'm only halfway to my goal weight.
