Lastnight I went out to eat, never really do that anymore. So I ordered the healthier option, grilled tilapia and shrimp with butter. On the menu they have the approximate calorie amounts for the meal. The most it was suppose to be was 570. And that was with rice pilaf as a side. I decided against the rice and went for broccoli and asparagus instead. Damn, was I mad when I started to eat and it felt like everything was saturated in butter. The fish the veggies, everything. I couldnt believe it. I barely ate any of the veggies because they were the worst. Should I have sent it back? -Buttered out in NY

Personally I would have and asked for the butter on the side.

Be sure to ask for your veggies to be grilled or steamed without butter or oil Unless the veggies were requested this way, I would not have sent them back All restaurants have their own way of preparing food

Did you ask for the food to be grilled without butter?
by (1.7k points)
@arvillaarvin922 I didn't. The only item that said butter was added to it was the shrimp. But I should have known better.

@promontory it happened; learn and move forward!

Look up how Tilapia is farmed in China. That's where most of it comes from. Very unsanitary conditions.

No. Next time ask them to cook with broth or cooking spray and no butter.

I NEVER EVER send anything back, I'm afraid they'll do something to it in the kitchen

Don't eat tilapia. Opt for some other fish. Tilapia is toxic.

Yes they do that for flavor and hope you’ll come back in order again and America response to that that’s why most of us are overweight. You know now so next time just ask them to cook it in very little butter in most places are happy to oblige

I always ask to have my fish broiled dry and just add points for the little oil/butter they do use. It’s been my experience that most restaurants will accommodate me. I also always ask if they have any steamed vegetables. With everyone being so health conscious these days I think most restaurants will offer a steamed alternative. A baked potato with 1 tsp of butter is a good option too. You did fine. I don’t like sending things back unless it’s really inedible.

Next time ask that they not add butter. I have never had them say no, especially for veggies.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.

Ask them to cook everything without fat. Tell them you have a medical condition if you have to. And don't be afraid to send it back, even twice, to get it right. You are paying a premium for the food, so they have an obligation to work with you.
by (1.2k points)
Key response: speak up before you get it.
by (480 points)
@takashi yes, but expect them to get it wrong because that happens a lot in busy kitchens.

If you don’t have it you need to get the weight watchers app it has restaurants on there it’ll tell you how many points. I would have sent the dinner back & tell them your allergic to all that grease! I’m not lying all that grease will make you fat! Ha

@hayashi I have the I track bites app. I'll have to look if it has that option Thanks!

If you're that serious, talk to the waitress or server about what you are ordering Explain what you don't want (calories? ) nd get a suggestion. Ordering without asking puts it all on you and should not be sent back.

Mention how you would like it. I’ve done that with lemon pepper grilled fish. I also ask for steam vegetables. You did your best & congratulations for that.

Ask for butter on the side or tell them you are allergic to dairy.

Absolutely! If you ordered it a certain way that’s how it should be served.

It’s done. Not to worry about it now. Next time ask for minimal or none. I hate when you look forward to going out to eat, make excellent choices and get served a bad meal. Butter luck next time lol! Have a good journey week everyone
