My favorite thing are smoothie king smoothies, but i just found out most of the smoothies have like 15 points or so per 20 oz (blue plan)! I’m upset and don’t know why they have so many points. It looks like they mainly have fruits, veggies and protein powder in them, does anyone know why the high point count?

When you go, ask them to take out the smoothie base. It’s loaded with sugar. If you just tell them that you’re not eating sugar, they can help you get it way down.

@jamima35 thank you! I bet that’s it! I didn’t realize that!

@encyclopedist401 that’s why they taste so amazing haha. I ask them to just use fruit, skim milk, and protein powder for me. They’re delicious too.

@jamima35 protein powder has points

Because they count the fruit in smoothies. Some time's people add extra sugar to smoothies too.

Because fruits in smooties have points

@momentous that seems wrong. I don’t agree with that.

Thats your choice to follow the plan or not follow the plan . I follow the plan as written some don't but then they complain when they dont lose as much its up to you. if you read the plan its in there

Why do fruits and vegetables count if I drink them in a smoothie, but not if I eat them? Whole fruit and most vegetables are ZeroPoint foods. But once they become part of a smoothie, the experience of eating them changes. Research shows that liquids don’t promote the same feeling of fullness as solid foods do. 1 When you drink something, it eliminates the act of chewing which may impact the signals between the belly and brain. 2 This means that the smoothie or juice you’re drinking will not promote the same amount of fullness between meals as eating the fruit might.

@momentous It’s also about blood sugar issues. Think about the difference in drinking orange juice and eating an actual orange.

I personally don't count points for my fruit in smoothies. It is the same amount of sugar, carbs, calories, e. t. c blended or not.

@jinajingle I agree. An apple is an apple. blended. cut . smashed.
by (11.8k points)
@jinajingle it’s because the explanation right above your post. It’s also part of the plan. When you turn anything into a drink it has points
by (16.4k points)
@correggio that's great for you, but I lost 70 pounds drinking 32oz fruit smoothies daily and that is one part of the program I will not subscribe to. Fruit is fruit is fruit.
by (11.8k points)
@jinajingle I’m just informing you of what the program says no need to get mad
by (16.4k points)
@correggio I'm not mad. Super chill and about to go make me a zero point smoothie. :)

Blended fruit has points, likely the fruits are processed with some sugar, not fat free milk/yogurts

Sugar. It’s always the sugar

Because your not chewing anything that is drank thru a straw will be more points. If u ate the fruit on its own (not a smoothie) is 0 points. Chewing helps your mind to think it full

Smoothie King smoothies are not healthy. They add a lot of sugar.

Anyone who has plenty of weight to lose will still lose weight by replacing unhealthy food with fruits of any form. Those on the last leg of their journey may find it harder to lose those last pounds this way. One may be tempted to think that the more fruit the better but it still really alot of sugar and something to consider when replacing wholesome foods for a smoothie as a meal replacement

@suctorial thank you for this! I’m down 75 lbs with 10 to go and still eating the same foods I was in the beginning (which includes a lot of fruit). The scale isn’t budging much at all.

I routinely have a smoothie with frozen blueberries blended in. I was told by our WW coach that if you stay with 30 or less blueberries blended, they are 0 pts. Now, another thought is, my "smoothie" ends up being very thick. So is it considered DRINKING it if you are eating with a spoon or sucking through a straw? Just a question.

I have them so rarely that I don't count blended fruit points. The only problem with Smoothie King and places like that is that they add sugar. We love Smoothie king though :)

I had to give up Tropical Smoothies. They are full of sugar.
by (2.3k points)
@consolatory it’s not sugar as in straight to the hips sugar, it’s glucose which is what your brain cells use to survive. Diffferent types of sugar completely. Fruit “sugars” are complex and filled with vitamins and minerals we need” sugar from a cake is unhealthy. Which is why I don’t like joining the two as if they are the same points.
by (3.1k points)
Increased sugar = increased insulin levels = increased weight due to cells absorbing to much glucose that the body turns into fat

Ahhh the great smoothie debate! My husband refuses to believe they have points. even after I sent him the info. He wants to know why applesauce is zero! ‍♀️

It is all in the digestive process. A blended fruit : Banana is 5 points
by (1.2k points)
Nice Cream is still zero.
by (3.1k points)
@dejong Ann Fried Do you drink Nice Cream?
by (1.2k points)
@suctorial I guess your right, but you don’t exactly chew it either. Same as applesauce. I’m not arguing for or against, just trying to figure it out.

Sugar is the key. Make your own and use Stevia
