Since December I have been struggling with Achilles tendinitis. In and out of a boot. I’ve seen posts on recommending brands of sneakers for walking but does anyone have a specific brand and style they recommend specifically for this? I’m dying to get out and walk ❤️

I have a ton of foot, ankle, knee, and hip problems. I’ve been told that New Balance, Saucony, and Brooks are the best. I still have to buy new shoes every 6-9 months for the support. Best of luck!

New balance is good so is brooks if you can find them. Having someone build you a heel lift would be very helpful. Good luck with your recovery
by (690 points)
@womanly but that would make her hips off balance and then cause hip/low back pain.
by (450 points)
@balzac I’ve been in the boot on and off— talk about throwing your hip out! Lol
by (4.9k points)
@balzac they can be added to both shoes. It will take pressure off the Achilles
by (690 points)
@womanly that would work better with lots of stretching.

New balance or Brooks, inserts called super feet, buy from shoe stores only, 3 different foot doctors told me to use super feet inserts and now I dont need shots in my foot, for a couple of years. Also stretch your leg toes towards you , lift up. It helps alot , Now I can walk, good shoes, good. Inserts, exercise, good luck !

I have this in both! Hoka Bondi 6. Tons of cushion and support. I am now pain free and it lets me wear other shoes without pain too. I walk three plus miles a day. They’re super expensive but worth every cent.

It seems to depend on your foot. I like Nike, but have used other brands. My running shoe right now is Addis.

Brooks, also my Orthopaedic doctor recommended compression socks to support the leg and ankle. I also use the Powerstep insoles in my shoes. When I experienced this same thing, I saw a orthopedic massage therapist that was able to get my hips realigned. One side was 3” higher than the other because of the boot.

Check brand Kuru. I have plantar fasciitis-- was not able to walk even in my house. I bought sleepers first( pretty expensive but def worth it! After I bought sneakers-- and a few months later did a lot of hiking during my 2 weeks hiking trip! During that trip I did wear only Kuru sneakers! Highly recommended! Told about them a few my friends-- everybody happy.

Had two surgeries on my Achilles. Anything that rubbed against it hurt like crazy. Not sure if you need surgery or not but lived in my ugg slippers (yes, my work allowed it due to circumstances) and any other slip on shoe
by (530 points)
Also I swear now by my ASICS running show
by (450 points)
@pe yes! Cannot have anything rub on it. But my uggs are flat and seem to irritate it beyond belief
by (530 points)
Maybe small wedge flip flops?
by (1.2k points)
No ! My flip flops caused my Achilles problems, & I loved my flip flops . I’ve been suffering since Aug.
by (530 points)
@dooryard94795 . Most Achilles problems are either bone spurs or related to the back of shoe rubbing against Achilles due to wrong size and or exercising ie. running jumping walking . I no longer wear flat flip flops. at work I now wear Toms. home uggs, and don’t walk on tile floors. Slide shoes work too.

I'm over a year post-op for plantar fasciitis and a torn arch. PT helped along with my New Balance. I also bought Power Step inserts on Amazon and my doc actually said they're good quality. Even if you don't run, you should go to a local running store to get properly fitted for a sneaker. What may work for one, may not work for another. There's also different levels of support in different sneakers.

I have Achilles tendinitis I cannot wear flats. If I want to walk I wear my Dansko hikers they are amazing but expensive. Good luck I never go barefoot anymore and I wear Halflingers in the house.

I have been in physical therapy for plantar fasciitis and was told to get walking shoes with arch support and padded heel. I went to the New Balance store and they recommended their Fresh Foam 1080 and I have to say they were well worth the price. They typically retail for around $130 but were having a 50% off sale when I bought them. I have been walking 3-5 miles/day and not having any pain.
by (4.9k points)
1080 is great, so is the 880. I work in a foot clinic, they are both great shoes. Even better if you can get them on sale. A solid arch is what you want. If you can twist your shoe like a wash cloth, it's not going to help you.

In my area, we have a running store that will evaluate your walking and help fit you in the best shoe for you. I loved my Hoka Bondi 6 for walking and my feet don’t get sore or tired like they use to in other shoes.

Hokas Clifton have saved me! My podiatrist did give me different inserts. It was a long process for me that included different meds and two shots but I’m finally pain free. I swear by Hokas! The Cliftons were the most cushion and felt the best for me. I also ordered their recovery sandal for around the house. Good luck-the pain is horrible.
by (3.2k points)
@quite4163 I love mine, too. I had to go to a certain drugstore to get special inserts.
by (2.6k points)
@huss2633 the dr gave me some and when I was still having problems, he built them up a little more. I can’t imagine not having them now.
by (3.2k points)

My dr. said if you can fold a shoe in half and hold it in one hand, its not a good choice. She proceeded to demonstrate with my backless Easy Spirit shoes. And I loved them.

You need to offload the pressure from the Achilles tendon to stop the tendon from. pulling. which means you need to wear a wedge type shoe or a shoe that is thicker at the back than front. I work in the field feel free to message me.
by (450 points)
@histogenesis99275 do you have a specific brand and model you recommend? I have been looking at the HOKA One One, as recommended on here
by (1.5k points)
Hooka one one are a great shoe the Bondi model. Also in the house do not go bare foot buy a sandal with a wedge like a fit flop.
