I’m trying to explain WW to my sister but I don’t think I’m explaining it right. How do you explain WW to people who ask?

Every morning you wake up with your daily points deposited to your WW account. That allotment is based on height, weight, age etc. these points are for you to use through out the day as you see fit. Weight Watchers has calculated how many Smart Points each food is worth and added 200 different foods that have a 0 point value. You chose how you spend your points and track everything you eat on the app. As you track the point values will be debited from your account so you can see your remaining balance. You can find points values by scanning item bar codes or looking them up in the app. You will also have an overdraft account with extra weekly points. This way if you have a special event or occasion you can dip into them and not run out of points. Some people are very frugal and don’t use these at all. Others like to deplete them completely. You will need to see which way works for you. When tracking if you stay 10 Points bellow you’re budgeted daily points or 5 above your daily points you will get a blue dot for the day as you will be in the healthy eating range. Try to get as many blue dots as possible through out the week. If you are below your daily budget you can take up to 4 of today’s points and roll them into your account for tomorrow. I personally do better when I track everything including the 0 point foods. I keep the 0 point foods to a serving size. I find by tracking everything I can easily look back and see what I ate on weeks I did well and what I can change on weeks I didn’t do as well. Do not expect to lose every week, there will be weeks you’re down a lot, some down a little, some you will stay the same, you will have weeks were you will gain. Don’t give up! Eventually you will get where you want to be! It’s taken me a year and a half to lose 67 pounds with absolutely no Thyroid which is amazing, some people do that in months. I am so glad i didn’t give up because I’m in a much better place today than I was a year and a half ago. Most importantly be kind to yourself! Love yourself no matter what the scale says!

It's not a diet, it's a healthy life changing choice on what you eat and the amount, people have gotten away from just doing the suggested serving size and if everyone followed that it would work for everyone

WW is a lifestyle, not a diet. You are accountable for everything you eat and drink. You can eat anything if you plan for it, and even save a couple points each day till you can have that item. You need to eat healthy with lots of fruit and veggies, and drink a ton of water. Exercise helps as well, even a short walk. I lost 80 pds and I’m coming up on a year as a LIFETIME member! I had a bad stroke and almost didn’t come out if it. I was given TP-A. I knew I had to change my lifestyle, and this lit a fire under Under my butt! I cut out all junk found and alcohol for 2 months, stayed within my daily SP, workout 5X a week, and I do IF. I’m great! I’m off all my old 8 RX meds for HBP, high cholesterol, arthritis, gout, heart, back, diabetes! My A1C went from 10 to 4. 5! BMI was 33. 9, now 23. 7. I’m the healthiest I’ve been in my life! Good luck to both of you, enjoy your journey!

When I’m following it 100%. which is hard right now. I think of it as, reminding yourself when you make the less healthy choices. to balance it out with healthy foods. Those are the zero point foods like veggies & fruit

Food is assigned a points value based on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. You are allowed so many points in a day plus some weekly flex points. It forces you to make healthier food choices and also gives you a large allotment of zero point foods to round things out. You can literally eat anything you want as long as you count its points.

When people say to me, " oh I forgot you're on a diet" , I can't really explain , NO , it's a different way of eating. Have been lifetime below goal for 2 years. Lost 93 lbs. My husband lost 110. We don't consider it a diet. We just eat differently than we used to. Tonight we're getting small cheesesteaks (takeout) from our favorite restaurant. We just just account for the points. WW is very doable! Hang in there !

Unlike keto, there are no "off limit" foods. You can eat anything that you want as long as you stay within your allotted points and you track EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. It works!

Every food except fruits and veg has a point depending on plan. You are allowed so many points per day once you eat all your points you are done for the day. Seems like there isnt very many pts but when you eat things that dont have points, its quiet a bIt of food. Chicken, eggs and most lean proteins are no points.
by (880 points)
@metz how many points are the proteins? Cheese?
by (1.6k points)
@chirlin depends on what proteins. fat free cheese dont have points i dont think but whole fat cheese is high. Anything dairy has lots of points unless fat free.

Every food and drink has a point value. Based on your age, gender, height and current weight you are given a daily point number. You eat foods (which have points) to fill you up and reach your daily point goal. (Points are similar to calories) so just like you have a daily calorie range. Eat in the range you loose weight

Every food has an assigned points value, so instead of counting calories you will count points. You are given a number of daily points, based on the program you are on. You choose what you want to invest your points on. That’s it.

Points are like dollars in life. You get a certain amount each day to use and when they are gone, your choices are done. Plan ahead.

Food items all have a point value, you have a certain amount of points you’re given in a day for optimum weight loss, based on your personal criteria (age, current weight, goal weight, activity level). Most fruits and vegetables are zero points. And some extra items are, depending on what plan you choose. You can eat whatever you like and lose weight as long as you budget your daily allowance of points. Example. tonight I wanted tacos. So I had a 2 point breakfast and a 4 point lunch, some fruit (zero points), and had 24 points leftover for my extra lean ground beef, low fat cheese, tacos.

It’s not a diet but a smart way of maintaining a healthy balance. I always tell friends I do better with choices and I never feel deprived thinking that way. If I decide to indulge in a fancy dessert while eating out I don’t allow myself to think it’s ok to choose a calorie laden drink or less healthy sides/appetizers to go with that dessert. Again it goes back to choices.

I also use a budget analogy. You have x amount of dollars (points) and foods cost x amount of dollars (points). The wonderful thing about WW is that you can spend your entire budget one day on a luxury item, then go back the next day and pay the rent.

Each colour plan is based off your current eating habits, and weight watchers is not a diet it's life style, that you can sustain long term. Depending on which plan you are using one has 100 free foods one has 200 free foods and 1 has 300 free foods but the daily points all differ on each. And weight watchers is a point based program not calories etc.
The Weight Watchers Group is where you can always find questions, answers, advice, reviews & recommendations from other community members about recipes, meal ideas, and tips for the Weight Watchers diet.
