If you feel that you must go and have no choice, then make sure your affairs are in order, Will is written and that both are in place for all of those you live with and seniors you see. If you’re not going to believe the statistics then at least be ready for possible consequences.

I would. When mines opens, I’m going. Just be cautious. I’m sure they will have guidelines in place for cleaning and the number of people they are letting in. I Just hope they adhere to it. I would Follow up and make sure you are comfortable.

If you have no conditions that make you susceptible, Yes. Exercise is better and healthier for you than staying inside and waiting for this end. If you wait for the virus to go away you won’t be in the gyms for months and months and months.

Walk outside. It seems it is more about the air you breathe than what you touch (especially if you are being careful not to touch your face. ) Inside air circulating the virus around and breathing it in. that is what is getting people sick.

Depends- if they are socially distancing in the space sanitizing equipment requiring and watching for cleaning of equipment after every use and has proper ventilation does not allow bags on the floor and you bring your own towel  yes! Low rate of transmission with that in effect research it and ask you gym what they are doing ours published a document. Additionally if you are an at risk category do not go- outdoor exercise is a better option for you until there is a vaccine imo

Your call, they would not open it they haven’t done everything they could for you to be safe. Wash your hands frequently or hand sanitizer, wipe all equipment you use before and after you use it, and keep your distance.

Research it if they are using safe practices and you are not in an at risk category go- it will do you good. Also check ours is offering outdoor classes as well and outdoor transmission is even lower.

@web the ignorance around the country about this is baffling, as there is so much credible info available. But people will believe what Sean and Rush say. We can’t do anything about it except hope everyone stays healthy.
by (540 points)
@garget82756 @web Look, I'm not saying don't wash your hands. I'm not saying don't wear a mask. It's your choice. But the media has used this pandemic to make people literally paranoid, not only of COVID, but of every other illness out there. I guarantee you from not until the end of time, 75% of people will be walking around with masks and gloves because they're scared, regardless if they're healthy, and there isn't anyone in their family that's compromised.
by (1.1k points)

The virus does not survive on surfaces. As a precaution, wipe down equipment and wash your hands before you leave
by (1.1k points)
@cthrine the bigger risk is from airborne droplets containing the virus when people breathe and speak. The flow physics of those droplets is not well understood. But that is one of the biggest risks posed by a gym: virus in the air of gyms that are not well ventilated. People breathe hard at the gym. It’s why they come!
by (540 points)
My physical therapist at Cleveland Clinic told me the same thing today. She also said it's okay if I didn't wear my mask. I was surprised.
by (3.3k points)
@cthrine yes it does for days
by (2.7k points)
@garget82756 Yes and no. If you are under 65, healthy, and at the gym, the people there are also low risk. Go work out. If you have diabetes, are morbidly obese, immunocompomised, heat issues, stay away. The virus is asymptomatic or mild for 90 pct of people, so evalute your risk. Surfaces are not a big risk. Droplets can be a risk if you may fall into a vulnerable category.
by (2.6k points)
@cthrine It might be a good idea to take your own spray sanitizer and paper towels because even before The pandemic, it ran out quite often. Or you would have to try to hunt it down at the gym and then you feel obligated to take it back where you found it. Sure you get some steps in but not at the speed you want. Whoops I think I address it to the wrong person, but I’m not changing it around. LOL!
by (3.7k points)
Bloomberg School of Public Health at John's Hopkins disagrees
by (2.7k points)
@colbycolbye8477 I like that. Gloves would be too hot. As someone who does virus test, saliva has a much lower virus load than mucus. Same would be true with sweat. That is why the stuff the swab WAY up your nose. The area near the nostrils does not have enough for us to see.
by (2.7k points)
@lynn6418 I do the testing. rarely find a positive surface swab.

I personally would not go. I have a certification in covid contact tracing from Bloomberg School of Public Health at John's Hopkins. Social distancing only works indoors at 15 mins or less. People are contagious 2 days before symptoms begin and at least 10 days moving forward plus being fever free 3 days. Places arent opening because its safe, they are opening because there is enough room for folks in the ICU
by (1.1k points)
@lynn6418 thank you for being a voice of reason.
by (690 points)
@lynn6418 which is the reason they closed. They did not close to wait for a cure, they closed to not over burden hospitals. Everyone needs to use their best judgement and do what they are comfortable with.
by (420 points)
@lynn6418 only 2 days? Doctors are saying up to 14?
by (3.7k points)
@naevus once symptoms begin a person is contagious for about 10 days plus 3 days fever free. From the onset of symptoms a person is contagious 2 days prior. As an example if a person wakes on a Monday morning with symptoms and tests positive, that person was contagious Saturday and Sunday even as feeling fine plus 10 days moving forward and or 3 days fever free. That is the problem with this virus May 3rd symptoms start. Person is contagious May 1-May 13 and plus until 3 days fever free so lets say they have a fever until May 20 then the 21 it stops. The person is contagious until May 24 and may come out of isolation May 25
by (470 points)
All of this talk about wiping down equipment. that should have ALWAYS been done at a gym. It’s in the air people! You can’t exercise with a mask on.
by (420 points)
@lynn6418, my nurse (one is a life flight nurse. The other works with Covid patients). daughters both say you can be contagious 14 days BEFORE you’re symptomatic. Which is why when you’re exposed you should quarantine for 14 days.
by (3.7k points)
14 days is the incubation which is why if you are exposed you isolate for 14 days.
by (3.7k points)
Because you could become symptomatic at any point and the contact trace is 48 hours from onset of symptoms

My son owns a Crossfit gym in Mobile. He has always been a neat freak and a compulsive cleaner long before he owned his gym. I can guarantee he has the cleanest workout facility around even long before the Covid-19 shutdown. His facility is large which allows for participants plenty of room and proper equipment to work out with. The coaches wear masks and are very watchful & he is there all day to oversee the facility. Everything is thoroughly deep cleaned between each class.

@hemphill the problem is this virus can overwhelm many systems very fast. That is not only tragic but it could impact your liberties as well.
by (3.3k points)
@lynn6418 yes or kill someone in her family then it might be a different time.
by (3.7k points)
@olibanum lots of systems depend on people for example family systems. If parents get sick together who cares for the children? The welfare system can be overwhelmed very quickly. If an entire police department gets sick who maintains law?
by (3.3k points)
@lynn6418 I just know my mother has COPD and is 86. I am not giving her anything and possibly saying goodbye to her at a hospital door. I've been called a sheep and even scared. we are both healthy, people need to look at the big picture.
by (3.9k points)
@hymanhymen My response to an old friend complaining about people not wearing masks: [old friend], I would rather not wear a mask because I know the science does not support the wearing of masks by the community. This is why the CDC recommended against it early in the pandemic. before they wrongly changed their position. This is why the WHO still doesn't recommend it. However, because you are a friend, I would consider wearing it long enough to have the in-person conversation that would help you understand that the recommendations for community mask wearing are not supported by the science. As a physician and former medical journal editor, I've read the scientific literature on this topic. Here are the key points that everyone should consider: - "Social distancing" by 6 feet is effective. - Wash your hands frequently. - Healthy people do not need to wear masks. - Cloth masks don't work. - If you wear a mask, wear it once and throw it away. Never touch the mask or your face without washing your hands. - Let me repeat, wash your hands frequently. - Sick people should stay home. - If you are coughing or sneezing, stay home. - If you cough or sneeze in your mask, throw it away and get a fresh one. - If you are going to wear a mask, please learn how to wear, handle, and maintain its sterility or it will become a liability to your health. - Community wearing of masks by the public is ineffective, lacks real scientific evidence of benefit, and may actually cause harm to the wearer: 1) re-breathing viral particles and INCREASING VIRAL LOAD that turns a mild asymptomatic disease into something worse, 2) aspirating the opportunistic pathogens that tend to grow in the warm, most interior of the mask, 3) decreasing arterial oxygenation, 4) increasing arterial carbon-dioxide. Hiding in fear from SARS CoV-2 is not the solution, at least not for most people with healthy immune systems and no chronic diseases. Supporting the health of your immune system and allowing herd immunity to develop should be the goal. See my page for a list of immune system supporting supplements and measures. Vitamin C, D, A, melatonin, glutathione, etc. are very good ideas. Hiding at home or behind masks will slow or prevent the development of natural herd immunity, the only thing that will protect the vulnerable populations. What's happening in the world today, including the misinformation surrounding community mask wearing, is about political agendas, symbolism, fear, and dividing and isolating the people. I walk outside everyday for my exercise, but I do know others whom prefer the gym. If I was a gym person I would definitely resume my workouts. There’s no way I would continue living my life in fear of what could happen. I would take the necessary precautions, washing hands, sanitizing etc; but move forward in keeping myself healthy. What I’m amazed at from other postings on Facebook is people afraid of getting the virus, but no one is scared about not being healthy and being overweight A person health needs to be inorder to fight off a virus so wouldn’t exercising and eating healthy be the top priority and not the virus
by (3.7k points)
@unwatched absolutely a healthy baseline is a great idea! However, there are many systems impacted by a sudden spike in cases. For example what happens when parents become ill at the same time who cares for children if no natural support? We are experiencing that where I live and the foster care system is being crushed. Its a nightmare 2 ambulances taking mom and dad away and 3 sick children sitting with cop waiting on a social worker who has no where to place the children because nobody wants to care for covid positive little ones. And we all know about hospitals. Also consider entire police forces down or fire stations shut down because everyone gets sick at once. Its a pretty significant issue
by (18.1k points)
@lynn6418 , understandable, but the virus can be acquired anywhere. There’s no way a human being can stay at home forever. Once things open up like travel etc; I will be gone. If I’m alive I believe in living my life. Just me thou‍♀️

@tini6 showers are not available nor are locker rooms in many of the facilities. There are limits to the number of members too. We can work out at home or outdoors
by (8.4k points)
@hymanhymen her question was would I go to the gym I answered what I would do. Yes if you choose to work out at home that's your choice but that was not her question
by (1.1k points)
@tini6 100% agree this has given me a new awareness of just how serious the “regular” flu is. I don’t want to get sick or get others sick so yeah I’m staying home when I’m feeling sick and going to avoid using my hands to touch my face, washing my hands regularly and wiping down equipment before I use it at the gym etc.
by (700 points)
@tini6 the question was “My gym reopens next week. safe to go? ” I responded no and gave my reason and suggested that if it’s important to work out that it’s safer to work out at our personal home or outdoors. YouTube alone offers tons of free video tutorials for everything from yoga to strength training to boxing to interval training to aerobics and so, so much more). I would not suggest going to a gym because the new coronavirus causes respiratory illness that can spread by touching surfaces a person with the virus has touched or even via airborne droplets when a person sneezes or coughs. ✌️

I wouldn’t, it’s unsafe to work out in a mask. Your risk carbon dioxide poisoning. And working out without a mask is also dangerous. I’d wait to see what happens in these gyms and if there’s another spike In COVID-19 cases.
by (6.8k points)
@misdo24 what do you mean carbon dioxide poisoning? What type of masks have that?
by (2.4k points)
@colloquialism It’s your own breath when you exhale. In - oxygen Out - Co2
by (6.8k points)
@vanscoy so wearing a mask is dangerous?

Of course it is. It was never unsafe.
by (770 points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide I hope you are joking.
by (16.4k points)
@mukden @munificent Puffer I'm not. This plandemic is nothing more than a way to get people to be afraid and controlled. It's obviously working.
by (13k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide wow with how many died I think that’s pretty sad and scarry Not to mention irresponsible
by (16.4k points)
@wedged people die all the time. People get sick all the time. This is not the way to ward off illness. Quarantine is for sick people. not the healthy.
by (13k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide huh? It has slowed down the illness , I’ve been 100% healthy since I’m not around sick people
by (16.4k points)
@wedged I'm healthy too and I go out every single day.
by (9.1k points)
A lot of people feel this way until it happens to someone in their family.
by (510 points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide are you stupid?
by (720 points)
Wow that's outright ridiculous thinking, don't be ignorant. Who is feeding this awful information to you that makes you believe it's a joke.
by (510 points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide get sick and see if you say that, ungrateful fools!
by (2.4k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide Wow! Where do you live?!
by (16.4k points)
I'm not gonna argue with y'all. If you want to live your lives in fear of a virus with a 99. 9 % survival rate, that's your decision.
by (450 points)
As a 911 dispatcher I totally disagree. But do respect those who believe in not social distancing. I hate social distancing. Hate what it did to my profession. Hate what it did to my family. Hate what it did to my social life. Love that my family hasn't gotten sick. Love that just a few friends have. Will not be going to planet fitness till there is a vaccine. Just like I dont go during flu season.
by (490 points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide I see your face is a wee bit orange.
by (16.4k points)
@slat559 explain?
by (1.4k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide And what do you make if the 900 cases at Cargill? And the deaths in long are senior facilities in Calgary? My friend lost her 84 year old dad to COVID-19 in Calgary a month ago. This was a real death not a ploy to control anyone.
by (16.4k points)
@sash14441 I'm not saying that people aren't getting sick. I'm not saying that people aren't dying. I'm saying it's no more than any other virus. And it's not going away just like every other virus. Staying home won't change that. The government is taking this virus and using it to usher in their "new normal. " I refuse to accept that.
by (13k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide great me to been working
by (1.4k points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide It’s the same virus that killed 95, 000 Americans (since February). It kills. Not only the elderly. Because Canada responded quickly to what they saw happening in the States, the number of deaths has been much, much lower.
by (16.4k points)
@sash14441 those numbers are highly inflated. Every single death in our county has been labeled covid even if they died from a heart attack or terminal cancer. why? Because our hospitals get $15, 000 per covid death.
by (770 points)
@jinajingle @rosiorosita4 Abuzeide you are a little cray cray.

Depends on how your gym is opening. ours opened Friday, but only for “micro tumbling” classes. 8 kids, 2 coaches. No spotting during phase 1 and classes are held outside. Athletes are split into 2 groups. One works on conditioning and jumps and the other tumbling where each kid has their own tumble track. Classes are 45 minutes and all equipment is cleaned after rotations during class and between classes. I still haven’t stepped foot in a grocery store. or any store for that matter since March 16th but they way our gym is handling it I’m okay with sending my daughter!

Hell no don't go! That's where this all started in my region of the state. Not going back to the gym until the vaccine is out
by (510 points)
@spinneret10 I agree with you 100% Nikki
by (510 points)
@spinneret10 then plan on never going back. The flu vaccine doesn’t work annually. Think this one will?

With over 900 cases of COVID-19 cases in High River (as of May 4th), it’s very inaccurate to say it was never unsafe to go to a HR gym.

I am sorry this post is not about South Africa. I would be at my gym in a heart beat. As long as you are careful and follow social distinsing. My belief that going to gym would be benificial and it would build up your immune system.

NO! I miss it. SO bad. I would go 6 days a week for 1-3 hours a day! But NO! I have lost Soooo much tone and definition. but still no. Just not worth it for me. I will get back what I have lost soon enough. I have an immunodeficiency and almost died from pneumonia 9 yrs ago at only 28. I can’t risk it! But even if I did not, I would be waiting another month or 2!
