I’ve turned my old router (netgear) into an access point and plugged it into the LAN port of my new Mesh router (only has one open LAN port and also the WiFi pucks have no LAN ports). They’re both sitting side by side. I then plugged the VMB4000 into an open LAN port in the access point (my old router). Could there be speed loss to the VMB4000 because it’s plugged into an access point? I’m getting grainy non pixelated video in the live feed and any motion detected. Would it better to put the old router in repeater mode? How can I get a solid signal to the cameras bc the base station is key?

Depends how old your “Old router” is, you would like to have minimum 100Mbit connections between the units. You also have to disable the routing function on the Old router, If you only need the switching function (extra ports) on the old then disable the wifi on it as well.

@recapitulation It’s a netgear nighthawk. Seems I do have the WiFi on bc I see the ssids for 2. 4 and 5. I can turn WiFi off. However, bc i used the option in netgear’s router settings to put the router in ap mode, I read that doing this will automatically disable dhcp. Once I turn off WiFi then should do it, right? My Arlos are still getting terrible signals. I have a mesh point in the garage but no full signal. Several cameras. I’m thinking it may be my upload which if you have 10 cameras 5mb isn’t going to do it!

@ola582 Think your 5Mbit is the bottleneck if that is your uplink speed to internet.

A 2K cam will use about 4Mbit and 4K about 20Mbit

@recapitulation Ugh. Not many options from Xfinity re: upload.

It’s not recommended to put the WiFi ON on your router placed next to your mesh node. That creates too much noise for your mesh to be really effective. I have a Linksys Velop unit, and I plugged it by Ethernet to the modem and then plugged a switch in the left free port on the Velop unit so I have more than 2 ports open in the mesh unit and then I plugged the VMB4000 into that switch. I have no issue (I deactivated the WiFi in the old router). try placing differently you base station comparing to the cameras.

@monecious78489 what type of switch? Old modem I put in ap mode is a netgear nighthawk. Seems I do have the WiFi on bc I see the ssids for 2. 4 and 5. I can turn WiFi off. My Arlos are still getting terrible signals. I have a mesh point in the garage but no full signal. Again my mesh points/nodes don’t have LAN ports behind them. I got the 4-pack from Costco. Several cameras. I’m thinking it may be my upload which if you have 10 cameras 5mb isn’t going to do it!
