Question about housing We currently live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath duplex and $1430 a month and have no backyard, but pretty decent storage space. Anyways, there is a single family home for rent in our town for $1300. It would probably end up being about $1370 a month because we would have to pay city utilities which we don't currently pay. The house is 3 bedrooms 2 bath also with a great backyard, but not nearly as much storage. Anyways, would y'all move even if the savings is only about $60 a month? I forgot to mention we have three kids. 11 yr old girl, 8 yr old boy, 3 month boy

Are utilities included where you live now? I probably would stay put

@glee10 the city utilities are currently included. The new place would have lawn care and pest control paid for. We would still Saving about $60 a month even with pain the city utilities at the new place.

Yes aside from saving over 700 a year the fact they have a backyard means no leaving as much an spending to do other things

I would move. It may only be $60/month, but adds up to over $700/year. And the kids will have a backyard to play in!

As someone who has NO storage space at all - seriously, we have one small bedroom closet in each room (we have 2 bedrooms) and that is it., I would stay where the storage space is. You can go to parks, play areas for kiddos, and have the space you need. Just my thoughts :)

Will you have to pay deposits on utilities? Will your renters insurance increase? Will your utilities go up? Will you have to buy anything for the new apartment, especially with having a backyard you're not used to having. Where will you put all the stuff you're currently storing in the townhouse if the new potential rental has less storage space? Just some things to think about.

@mantilla no deposits on utilities. Power, gas, cable are already established those I would just have to transfer over. I would have to check to see if one would be required for the city utilities. No new furniture or anything would be needed. The stuff we have currently I could probably purge more than half of it.

I would but I’m a yard person. We have purchased our homes mostly due to the outside space- that’s where we spend the most time. So I think it’s just up to your preferences.

Actually the house we own now we got a lot of flack over. Why do we own such a huge home when there are only 2 of you (5 bedrooms 4, 900 sq ft)? We tell everyone we fell in love with the property and this happens to be the house that was on it.

I looooove the yard and we also have a dog too.

@attired I would definitely move then, honestly even if it cost a little more ‍♀️.

@exasperate we turned in the application today so we will see. It's also 4 houses down from my mom.

I would donate as much stuff as you could therefore no need for the storage space.

@pelorus that's our plan! Sell and donate :)

Cost to move tho.
by (1.4k points)
@bluff no cost to move :) except some pizza and water for our friends. It's only about a mile from our current home. When we moved into our current place we paid first, last and deposit. So march we wouldn't pay rent (1430) here. We would pay the deposit for the new place $1200. Then April when we move in we would pay rent at the new place (1300)

@attired tough choice. I'm sure you'll make the best decision.

Grab it! $700 savings a year and a backyard for the kids to play(no having to always go to the park or out somewhere for outdoor fun) and hosting BBQs so less nights out with friends they can come over and hang out. It's a win-win
