Not so much budget related but I was wondering if any of you have a newer RAV4? I’m considering purchasing one after my lease is up. I wanted to know how you like them, does it have good gas mileage, and would you recommend it? I’m budgeting for my next car and would like some input. Thank you in advance!

If you have kids- check out  for a review. I think they are only four seaters due to overlap

@furnishing819 you are welcome!

@spiral it definitely, DEFINITELY lacks in the back seat options, but there are Anchors for the two bucket seats. If I have anymore kids, I will definitely need a different car bc there’s no way to sit 3 across comfortably or safely!

Mines not “newer” per say but I have a 2014 and will drive this for hopefully another 5-10years and would probably purchase a new one at that time. It’s the best vehicle I’ve owned.

I had a 2014 that I got rid of only because it was a lease and I was in debt repayment mode. I loved mine. I just got a 2016 Buick Encore and it’s a bit smaller but I love it just as much. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Toyota imo. My gas mileage was mid 20’s in city driving.

I had a 2015 and miss it everyday! (We had to buy a bigger car due to a new baby)

@crannog1466 same here. I LOVED my RAV4, but with 2 kiddos in car seats, it just wasn’t quite roomy enough. I told my husband I want another one once we’re done with car seats, even though that’ll be like 10 years down the road lol.

Love my RAV4. Had a leased 2017 (but got rear-ended this past July and it was totaled). I had already planned on buying another at the end of the lease (instead of leasing, and didn’t want to buy my lease out because I wanted additional amenities in the car) so I bought a 2015 and still love it. I love the extra room but I’m also really short and so I love that it doesn’t feel huge to me. And it drives great and I feel like gas isn’t too bad.

Ok I don’t know about newer ones but a testimony I have: In college I was a passenger in a 2000 Rav 4 when we were hit almost head on, on a highway by a drunk driver. He almost died, flipped rolled etc. we survived with scratches, some contusions, lots of bruising and soreness. That car saved my life!

@expeditious thank you and I’m glad you walked away from that accident.

I have a 2013 limited and I love it. We have had it for 3 years and its paid off since august! We put a large down payment because we didnt want a large monthly and then last year worked hard to pay it off early to pay for my daughters school. But it's the best car we have ever had. I love it and would for sure get another one after. The only car I would switch to is a 4 runner but it's not practical for us so I probably wouldn't.

I don’t have a newer one, but I have driven a 2005 RAV4 for 11 years and it’s still going strong with 160K miles on it! It hasn’t cost me much more that oil changes and gas and a few minor repairs in all of those years. ❤️

I have a 2010 rav4. I’m just about to pay it off and it’s got 142, 600 miles on it. I love it. I will eventually need something bigger, but I am keeping this for a while longer. Easy on gas, smooth ride. Not top heavy. And it’s a toyota so as long as you keep the oil changed and do maintenance on it, it will last past 200, 000 miles easy! We are a family of Toyota. My stepdad had a tundra, my grandma has only owned a Toyota Camry and they also have a sienna.

My dad had one and absolutely loved it. And he is the pickiest car person in the world! The only reason he got rid of it was bc he takes care of his aging mother who needed something closer to the ground. Good luck!

I LOVE MY RAV4! It's not new by any means though. I bought it brand new in 2009. It now has 194, 000 miles on it. I change the oil every 5, 000 miles and I'm good to go again. I've driven it from NC to TX in 1 day and back the next, it's taken me all over this country and never had any issues. I'm planning on driving it till it dies or at least another 200k miles.

Do you have small kids? My friend had one and car seats were challenging.
by (1.8k points)
@jetty I do have two kids still in car seats so that’s good to know. Thank you

I have a 2016 and love it. I used to drive compact cars so this was my first "big" vehicle and it was a great choice. It doesn't feel too big for me but it's also big enough my 6 ft feels comfortable driving. It also has great cargo space. We just bought a house and were able to use our Rav to move so much.

LOVE my RAV4. This is my second in a row (leased the first as my first car ever in college). It’s a 2018 and it has nice updates but also drives great in all weather especially snow (living in Missouri), and really does get decent gas mileage. Plus I can fit a ton in it - I’ve been able to fit a double mattress and bed frame in the back

Also like to add I have a newborn and I can easily get him and his things in and out of the car. I have the premium with the leather seats :)

I have a 2015 and LOVE it so much! It is such a comfy ride, gets good gas, also great in the snow (if you have that where you live). They last forever as long as you take good care of them! My husband and I take Ruby (our RAV4) everywhere we go for road trips and such! My parents also have a 2013, and I had a 2008 before I got the one I have now! One last thing. the seats in the back fold down and you can put quite a bit of stuff back there too!
