Ever wonder how many ad sets you should have running at a time in the account? One of the biggest problems I see when auditing ad accounts spending <$1k/day is overcomplicating the structure. By having too many ad sets running, you are essentially spreading all of the learnings very thin. It becomes difficult to exit the learning phase. Let me explain. Facebook needs ideally 50 purchases per ad set a week to optimize. If you have 20 active ad sets, that means you need 1000 purchases a week account-wide to optimize! I created a calculator to help buyers decide how many ad sets they should have running: A great ad set to start a small account with is a 1% LL based off of past purchasers or ATC, and then a remarketing ad set for last 30-day website visitors. Aim to get these ad sets optimizing by putting most of the budget here and rotate in new creatives weekly. Once these ad sets start rolling, then you can scale to audiences from there!

Thanks for sharing! One question, will changing the creative reset the learning phase?
by (560 points)
Yes it will, however there's a fine balance to be had with testing/letting things optimize! I've found for new/small accounts, the first and most important variable to test is creative.

What do you do with a budget of $17 a day - $500 month? Even run CBO.? Just one open ad set.?

This is useless.

I will like that's quite a classic thing to post from someone in the US market. 1k/Day seems to be a common budget you might have and especially easily some target groups with a few million people in it. In smaller markets you oftentime shave trouble spending that much (or even close), not talking about having those kind of budgets.

@bower40 then go wide with minimal adsets

What if you don’t leave the learning fase? Is leaving the learning fase more important than finding the right audience? Have anyone done any statistically relevant tests on performance difference between 50+ conversions /week vs ad sets not leaving the learning fase?
by (7.8k points)
@ami7454 Pretty much an impossible test to carry out since FB’s delivery is optimized/biased. But unscientifically I haven’t seen much difference in ROAS between adsets that are in or out of the learning phase.

Tks share! Would like to know if 50 purchase must been finished in a week to optimize, otherwise it would not keep optimize? What's the influence?
