There are a few sprays you can get, it’s a little sod to get rid of, my mum used to go on a lily beetle hunt every night, they like to hide under the leaves, you have to pick them off and stand on them I’m afraid or they will affect all your plants.

@earflap I saw some products but they were soooooo expensive!

The best one is provado. , a bit expensive but works. My mum tried allsorts but this worked. She grew beautiful lillies over 6 ft tall and she was only 5ft 1!

Come on mate, play fair, you only noticed them eating "your" lilies just now, they have been eating them since before mammals. if you have birds, or hedgehogs or frogs or ants they will eat them, or are they supposed to go hungry too? tell you what get rid of them too and put down some astroturf.

When I first noticed these Lilly' Beetles, I thought they were Ladybirds until I got a closer look. I don't have Lilly's any more, but use to knock the beetles off the plant and make sure I had a white bucket placed underneath to catch them. You can squash them with your finger, or post them to Robin, lol

@enterectomy take no notice just a idiot block him

Don't knock them on to the soil they bury themselves then reappear so get a small bowl of hot water and knock them into it x

Strange as it sounds, bit i used to swear by ant powder. Sprinkled on the lillies. No idea why but it worked. I am sure others will have better ideas though. X x

It’s actually the larvae that eat the leaves, not the beetles. Look under the leaves, you’ll see brown splat that look like poo. They’re the larvae. Or if you see lines of tiny bright yellow dots, they’re the eggs that haven’t hatched yet. I use baby Unscented wet wipes & clean each leaf. Time consuming, but I’m happy knowing no pesticides have been used that can affect other bugs. The beetles will move on to other places & breed. Your lilies will be safe. Just keep checking every couple of days.

I took all my lillies out as lily beetle was everwhere. They cover there eggs up under leaves with their poo. Planted a fritilliar and had baby lily beetle on it. Try peppermint spray bugs dont like it. Good for keeping spiders out of house too

@clements345 love this. is it just peppermint flavouring or scent with water?
by (480 points)
Its peppermint oil in a water spray. Just spray, doesn't harm the plants. I put it neat, just a few drops in my window. It keeps spiders out

I've been using this quite a bit this year for aphids that keep returning to the same plants every other week and I've not seen a lily beetle yet or woodlice or anything other than aphids now i think of it. thankfully
