Good morning all I’m new to this gardening lark & need some advise from you lovely lot! I’ve bought some bamboo to plant at the bottom of my garden for privacy but I do know that it can take over so my question is . 1) can I plant it in its pot? 2) do I re pot it in a much bigger pot & plant that? Or 3) do I just plant it & hope for the best?! It’s getting blown all over the place with this wind! Thank you xx

You can buy large rectangular planters off ebay, you want clumping bamboo and pot it in the planters else it will take over!

I had bamboo in the garden of my last house. People before me had tied thick cord around the base. Any shoots that came up outside the cord I cut back. It did keep it under control but Home Bargains are selling huge plastic pots for £2. 99 if you’d rather plant it in a pot.

Keep bamboo in a pot - the roots are a devil to get out once they spread. You can sink the pot into the ground; but make sure the roots are contained. Alternatively dig your hole and line it with roof slates, which will do the same thing.

I have bamboo in a container for privacy. There are 4 Phyllostachys in this, they have been in there for almost 6 years, they were a good size when we planted them so they have filled out but are still fine in the pot.
