This may sound like an odd question but, is anyone freaking out about the impending wet weather? I feel like I need to rain proof all my hard work

I just need rain so I can do housework instead of garden work. my house is a tip but refuse to do it on a hot day when there's work I can do in the garden on a hot day haha x
by (1.9k points)
@uela127 I’m the same! At least if it rains I’ll get some housework done x
by (480 points)
@uela127 yes! It was my excuse not to do cleaning inside when I could garden
by (5.8k points)
I'm almost tempted to do a rain dance haha x
by (5.8k points)
Also it can stay a mess for now until it rains. not like there's any chance of company turning up and seeing it ‍♀️
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Ah I'm sure it's very tidy really. It's probably tidyier than you think!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 oh it's tidy it just needs a good clean, dusting and windows cleaned etc x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Ah not too much then. Do you have many indoor plants?  ( sensible head on now
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 no none at all. I only got into gardening last year so I'm sticking to what I know so far and that is planters. I've been in the garden most of the time doing those, painting my fences and sheds and I'm going to landscape the bottom of my garden over the next couple of weeks weather permitting and providing I can get the stuff to do it x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Ah its really great you've got into gardening, it's so therapeutic!. Indoor plants really great to freshen the air and provide energy balance. How big is your garden?
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 haha it's a decent size, not massive but not small. I've never had an indoor plant survive in my entire life, I even killed a cactus so after that I gave up on indoor stuff  x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Haha ah bless!. Don't worry I'm sure due to falling into one once ( bad idea to put them on a window that you need to open) Do you have any grass laid?
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 yeah I do in both gardens but they're a mess. I have a dog so not bothered about it not being perfect so long as there's no nettles in it. The front lawn is full of clover and patchy so I need to put some grass seed down but don't know whether to weed and feed first to try and kill some of the dandelions x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. I have an idea for you, how about weeding some of the garden (taking up Dandelions etc) and filling in with some grass seed and sand mix, but theneaving a natural wild flower margin. letting the clover and Dandions grow?. Dandelions have so many uses. Not only great for bees. But you vsan make honey, Salads cordial and coffee!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 my back lawn is full of dandelions and daisies. I like the daisies so spent about 3 hours yesterday morning pulling the dandelion heads off  every time I thought I'd finished I'd turn around to see about another 40 had woke up. I woke up today feeling like I'd done a heavy workout in the gym off all the squatting down and I'm not even kidding . It was the clover last year that killed the grass in the front last year. It's roots went all over the grass just below the surface strangling all the grass. I pulled all the roots out from the surface but tbh it's just been left all patchy now and what grass there is needs a good feed on it x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Haha nothing like a good squatting workout! . Hands and knees may be the best bet here! Although do use a nice foam pad to get comfortable ☺ yes clo er again is great for the bees but has the ability to overtake. . Great that you've brought it back to bare earth! . Does gardening differ from the day job greatly ?
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 that's exactly what I've used today to paint the bottom of my fence haha they're life savers. The clover in the front lawn seems to have gone a lot this year but it's still got loads of weeds but none that I recognise. Yeah I'm a sales assistant and do a little beauty and cake Decorating so totally different x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Certainly are. I'm an old man now and need as much comfort as possible!. ☺. You sound really hands on good effort with the fence!. I'm having a fence war back at my house. Its a share fence, and he paints his bright red and it all comes through on my side so I duly cover it up with a coat on my side ( dark brown) which in places possibly unavoidably comes through on his side ( quick caveat we do get on! ). He then re paints 6 months later and the same thing happens again! Haha. Loving the cake decorating. You are obviously very creative!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 ah fence wars haha so far I've had none of that but my neighbour has just asked if she can paint her side of my fence in her colour the day after I painted it. I said yes but if any goes onto the sides of each latt so that it shows on my side she'd have to touch up with my paint as I'd literally just finished it so obviously didnt want to do it again . Got to be hands on when you're a single lass or it costs a fortune haha. Last year I landscaped one side of my garden, replaced my fence and built boxing in stands out of the old fencing and I really enjoyed getting stuck into it so it's my project to do another part of my garden this year x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. I could have done with your firm negotiation skills with my neighbour. He's an old boy so didn't want to put him out, . But in retrospect maybe I should have touched things up sooner ☺. And more carefully!. Really impressed you replaced your whole fence!. Did you dig out the posts too?. Where did you learn your skills from?. I could do with you in my garden!
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. That's really impressive!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 yes I did dig them out with my cousin, it was like a carry on film as I didn't have the strength to lift them obviously as they were concreted in with 2 bags of postcrete for each post so just used the old posts as levers while I stood on the end with my whole body to lever it up so my cousin could roll it off. I nearly killed her when one of the posts catapulted up through the air when she roll it off . My dad had started it but had cancer and I could tell it was too big a job for him but knowing he wouldn't stop I asked my cousin to help me get the old concrete out and finish it for a surprise when he came back. I just learnt on the go haha it's all trial and error. I loved using all the "men's tools" in the garden haha I was thinking of going to college and doing a basic DIY course (plumbing, drilling etc) x
by (5.8k points)
After the fence i put a new washing line pole in with postcrete, when I was mixing it in the hole my cousin said here I'll used my hand to mix it as it'll mix better  I just stopped her to tell her it would set on her hand in minutes  x
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 thanks x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. I'm so impressed!. quite a woman! I don't want to mess with you!  . Sorry to hear about dad, hope he's OK now!?. Great to learn some extra skills!. Im learning the skateboard. This is not working out so well for me , ( p. S sent you some info via pm)
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. That is ridiculously funny!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 haha I'm ok I suppose, can always be better though. He's ok, not getting better but not getting worse which is the main thing. Skateboarding wow, I could never do that as a kids let alone as an adult  x
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 oh it was really funny, she's crazy so i always have a laugh with her or should I say at her. I still laugh now imagining taking her to a&e with a concrete stump on her hand  x
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. Ah sorry to hear that. Hmm has he tried a plant based diet?
by (3.9k points)
@uela127. If it was me, I would need my whole body taken out of there!
by (5.8k points)
@selmaselman77 I'm not too sure. I think he's just on hormone treatment x

I’m dreading having to do some housework after being off since the 20-something of March, have been doing minimal ‘work’ in the study on the top floor then it’s been straight down the stairs, squeeze my eyes tight shut as I walk thru the kitchen out into the garden && shut the patio door
by (5.8k points)
@comparison1467 Dixon yeah I've been constantly in the garden and avoided looking closely around my living room. Just got a glance of the amount of dust on something the other day and thought ah what the hell it's going to rain later I'll do housework then. I'm still waiting for it to rain  x
by (1.2k points)
