I've stupidly planted some bedding plants out and it's going to get cooler this weekend, does anyone think they will survive? We are near York area. Many thanks in advance.

Can't see why they shouldn't, if we had frost it would but not this time of yr x
by (5.8k points)
@phagocyte56 we still get frost till the end of may. Xx
by (1k points)
@direction really didn't no that, well put my plants in aswell so fingers crossed they don't die me x
by (5.8k points)
@phagocyte56 yeah that's why you shouldn't do your hanging baskets till june. If they have been outside for a while already they should be ok as they have had time to harden off xx

@phagocyte56 chances of frost till the end of May.

Thanks everyone, thankfully haven't planted them all just a shame to lose them as they were my own seeds from previous bedding plants. Thankyou all. Xxx

You can buy fleece to cover them or use a bin bag. We are still a great risk until june. "Never cast a clout till may is out" Weve been getting decent weather until may then it starts freezing again last year it even snowed around may 15th xx
by (550 points)
@direction very true. I got lured into planting out with this warmer weather. I think we have some thing similar on the allotment not fleece bit thinner. We use it til veg plants are Hardy enough so pigeons don't kill them. Can't remeber for the life of me what it is called. Xxx

My bedding plants are out. Don't see a frost on the forecast.
by (550 points)
@zeldazelde unfortunately it is going to cool off. I have to check for the ponies. Xxx

@engedi7157 know the feeling. I used to put my plants out same time as the horses. We haven't had many frost over the winter as it's been so wet.
by (550 points)
Hasn't it, where we are it is now so dry. Ground is impacted and hard. Xxx
by (1.6k points)
@engedi7157 same as were not far from york. Wierd weather and all the seasons have mingled in to 2 .

Bedding plants should not be planted till june there was a frost here last night and a big 1 coming weekend
by (550 points)
@crock66343 I got lured into it with this nice weather. Will definitely cover up on an evening. I'm lucky that it's a smallish courtyard style garden with fence panels for protection. But will still cover. Thanks. Xxx

I've had my bedding plants out for a month now. No problem, if we get a frost and it kills them, it's no big deal, Will just buy some more. There not that expensive.
by (5.8k points)
@coldblooded yours might be ok with being out this long already as they will of hardened off xx
by (910 points)
@direction Yes , I think your right . x
by (5.8k points)
@coldblooded I have lobelia that has self seeded in some pots that have been there for ages I know these will be fine . but if I was to buy some now and plant them out they will just die as they cant tolerate the change in temperature. The stuff from garden centres/super markets is force grown with heat and light Xx

Mid May at the earliest to put bedding plants out, ground is still very cold, I've known snow beginning of May!
by (910 points)
@goethe1 we've had the hottest April on record, that's why my bedding plants have been out for a month and they have grown really well and hardened.
by (4.2k points)
@coldblooded we might of had really nice weather - again very unusual, giving people a false sense of security, but our weather is very unpredictable as next weekend will show, cold winds and frosts. This time 4 years ago there was snow in South Devon.
by (910 points)
There was no snow in the Midlands , this time4 years ago. I know that for a fact.

My dad used to work in a nursery years ago, and they always used to sow two lots of bedding plants. The first batch were for people who wanted to get them out early and the second batch was to replace the ones that were killed by late frosts. Clever eh?
