I'm using breeze blocks to raise them

@malang smart move. Need air to pass underneath and be able to stop moisture getting trapped.

@alto that was my thinking. Weed barrier, blocks then pallets.

@malang and no fixing to each thing just sit the pallets on the blocks then nail decking boards on?
by (570 points)
@tobi811 that's what I'm doing I can't see it moving with all the weight. You could always use some L Shape brackets and concrete screws if you rally want to but then where do you stop. Might as well concrete the blocks in place and so on lol

@tobi811 it works nice with blocks as the deck board I have to use as a trim covers the pallet and blocks

@malang do u have any photos?

@tobi811 not yet I will post them once its all finished

@malang yeah sound plan. Hell even some oil based paint on them like gloss. Stops the moisture getting into them. But make sure you get it in every exposed part of the wood

You have to protect the wood also lay a weed membrane down if you can have it slightly raised off the floor

I'm using liner to kill the grass and some slabs under each corner to raise it up from the ground then pallets straight on top with boards after

As others have said the wood will rot if you lay it straight on the ground. Pallets arent fully treated like wood specifically for building outdoors and even that rots in time. Even on slabs, anything which gets wet will eventually rot

I did a weed membrane and shingle then laid my pallet frame on top of that. did mine summer 2016 and only just had to replace a couple of wood pieces on the deck. just need to repaint now.
