Has anyone got any experience with planters for potatoes? I don’t have a veg patch, and don’t really have space for one so I’m trying to grow things in containers. I keep seeing potato planters and they appeal to me, but the affordable ones all have a Velcro window for harvesting your spuds. Surely after the first opening, it’d get covered in soil and not close again?  The wooden planters look nicer and the window looks better but are way out my budget unfortunately. With either sort, do you get a lot of soil spillage when you rummage for the potatoes? Are potatoes really better suited to the ground?

Any large pot, bucket or barrel will do for spuds. Even an old potato sack is great for growing them in. Just empty out to harvest then refill and plant more.

I am using an empty compost bag rolled down, just put a few holes in bottom and unravel the bag as leaves grow
