I have bought 3 x 2. 5l Cuprinol garden shades Urban slate for my fences and have just realised I’m probably going to need at least double that as I have about 19 fence panels to paint. I’m now looking at Cuprinol Silver Copse Ducksback as it seems it be a bit cheaper. Anyone had any experience with either? Is there much colour difference between the 2? I really like the urban slate but thinking using silver copse will be half the price! Thanks :)

We bought 10 litres of the ronseal paint and have about 60 fence panels and it was more than enough and we done 4 coats I think you’ve bought enough!
by (1.1k points)
@wellappointed we brought ronseal. we have 16 fence panels each had 2 coats and we have used 20L. they still need another coat!
by (580 points)
@birt9780 no way that’s crazy idk how we managed to ours although our fence panels are about 5 foot maybe that’s why I don’t know?
by (1.1k points)
@wellappointed i found the paint really watery and the coverage wasnt good either. I have seen lots of people complain about it. The only reason i didnt return it was because of lockdown
by (580 points)
@birt9780 yeah I found it was basically coloured water too, I wouldn’t use it again seen people say it washes off as well after a year
by (1.1k points)
@wellappointed ill be fuming if mine washes off
by (580 points)
@birt9780 so will I hahahaa it took hours I was sore for days

I’m thinking I really want the urban slate colour, my fence is already dark brown and I’ve jetsprayed it today to prep it. I might do a coat of silver copse and then a final coat of urban slate. I’ve decided I’m definitely not going to have enough to do 2 coats on then all x
by (330 points)
@buddle37 I've just done mine in urban slate. But the previous owner used rough palet boards to do my fence meaning most of these boards needed alot more paint than it should have done. The fence and drive are being redone next year and I just wanted a 'tidy up'in the mean time. The smooth panels it went on lovely first coat and second coat even better. The first tin only managed to do 1 and a half coats. But the second tin finished the second coats, done 2 coats on my side gate and 2 coats on the back of the fence. That used half a tin. So if your fence panels are good quality I'd imagine it would go quite far. It's a lovely dark grey. The pic shows 2 coats on the larger fence panel and 1 coat on the small one. Going over orange fence panels.

@rest85438 looks lovely x

@buddle37 mine were red cedar and took three coats to cover last year and just two very thin coats to touch up this year! X

Excuse the garden as it’s still a bit bare! All fence panels are silver copse and the decking is urban slate! Hopefully this gives you some comparison but other than price I actually think the silver copse wears better! Xxxx
by (700 points)
@davisdavison716 perfect! Just what I needed lol x
by (820 points)
@buddle37 I had to try and get a really similar colour as ran out of silver copse and urban slate was all I could get, it’s been down about 4 weeks and already wearing in places on the deck! Xxx

Silver copse looks dark on some fences and light on others, I tried it and it was wat to light for what I wanted so I got cuprinol black and mixed it with the silver copse and now have a really dark grey, I love it!
by (700 points)
@giorgi that sounds interesting as I have seen black in stock too, what ratio did you use? Do you have any pics x

@buddle37 mixed 5 litre silver with 5 litre black, I'll take a pic in the morning for you x

Cuprinol ducksback is a brilliant fence paint unlike watery Ronseal! Silver copse and urban slate are very very similar in colour, urban slate looked dark on the picture on the tin but is much lighter when painted on. Both are great colours! I've finally managed to buy the black and the silver copse in the ducksback and urban slate in the decking stain for the first time since lockdown from homebase in newark Nottinghamshire this week.

I did 6 fence panels & a gate with one 2. 5 l Cuprinol garden shades urban slate as it only needed one coat on to brown fencing you will have to do two coats of ducks back 5L of ducks back is more expensive than 2. 5l of urban slate, Xx

Screwfix do 10 litre tubs and are cheaper than anywhere else . Depends if they have any in your area though .
