Just put some fish in it you will have the best biggest garden pond on here or just start a fish farm I fell off my chair laughing when some say just fork it with that amount of water you will have to get few 50 foot scaffolding poles then strap them to a jcb digger arm & fork it with that to get rid of that amount of water

@settera @catchings4 Hughes yes that suggestion did make me giggle a bit

Some really useless suggestions to a sensible question

@settera @catchings4 Hughes true, but a little light humour doesn’t do any harm.

Advice needed. I have mixed multi purpose compost with chicken manure and bone meal ready for using in my vegetable garden. Can I also use it to start seeds off or do I just use compost on its own for starting seeds off. Any help really appreciated
by (660 points)
@downstate98 you just need basic compost for seeds. They don't need nutrients as they're self contained so to speak! (Remember when you did mustard and cress on paper when little)
by (1k points)
@servetnick3312 Oliver thanks and yes I remember that.  Just as a matter of interest would seeds still grow in the mixture
by (660 points)
@downstate98 maybe too much for 'em! They may be burnt by the chicken manure.

My green fingers are itching too! I mowed the lawn last weekend as it was relatively dry. We're not expecting any frosts for a while so I'll start pruning the bigger shrubs to shape them for the summer. I'll scarify and aerate the lawn at the weekend. Build the last raised bed the weekend after that and pressure wash the patio. I also need to clear out any of last year's dead bedding plants from pots etc and give them a wash off as they have all got filthy in the rain. I think other than that, just planning where things might go and looking longingly through seed brochures and my sutton's vegetable garden magazine

Planning and purchasing. Right now I'm acquiring seeds and bare-root plants as well as some spring bulbs. I'm planning where they will go in the garden, and since our winter has been mild and fairly dry, I was able to get out and start doing some of the hardscaping and bed prep. I also visit with the cover crops just to say high and get my gardening fix :-) I have all my seeds organized in envelopes according to when they need to be started and where (inside under lights, greenhouse or direct sow) so I know how many paper pots to make, how much room we'll have under the lights and when I need to have hardscaping ready outside for the seeds to go in on time. We will also be putting up a mini plastic greenhouse next week so it's there for the seeds and seedlings, once they're ready.

I want to expand the depth and shape of our flowerbed. Thanks to all the rain, the ground is cutting like butter with minimal effort. I’m taking advantage and have started digging out the edge of the new boarder today
